I remember hearing that Rihanna discounted Only Girl in the World to make it go number one.....did that not happen?

Don't remember.

If we expand it to UK, I know they discounted a single to get #1. So it's not just pop girls that do it.

Yeah, Rihanna's S&M remix was a flat out attempt at a #1. :rip: Poor Britney was probably forced to record those vocals when she had a damn cold because they wanted to rush release it in order to get that #1 spot.

That wasn't a cold, that's just her voice

Poor Sweet Nothing. Every time the #10 song drops below it another song jumps ahead of it. It's stuck outside the top 10.

Phuck the charts :) Bad Romance is still one of the biggest hits for the last 10 years and it's a number 2 hit so .. :) (but lol that's a whole different story , it was still top 5 while Sweet nothing ... )

It should be glad it made it as far as it had tbh, it's not that great of a song :coffee:

I understand what your saying, but it annoys me how everyone uses Katy as a scapegoat for the issue. Pop artists have been using the remix tactic for decades. It's a little unfair to single out Katy when the majority of pop stars over the past 20-30 years have been doing the same.

It's different though! And that logic is not right, just because a majority of "artists" or people do something, doesn't justify their actions. It's cheating, plain and simple. And back in the '80s, Janet Jackson and Mariah would do remixes NOT to chart higher on the billboard chart & score a #1, but because it was part of their artistry and they wanted to collaborate with another artist. THEY CHANGED THE VOCALS/SONG COMPLETELY, which is something Katy and Rihanna NEVER do when they remix their cheap, tacky, annoying songs. They just get a popular rapper to be featured on the song so it grabs the public's attention and they sell more. Plus, back in the '80s, the songs were already done charting and THEN they released the remixes. Completely different than Katy and Rihanna using them at the last chance to score a bigger hit on the charts.

I don't really care for Calvin Harris. His production is extremely generic, average, and rather shallow IMO. He just rides off the whole breakdown thing, which I don't even think he does very well.

Calvin + Florence is better than either artist alone. I like their remix (it was originally just Flo).

That we we need - EDM producers getting together with artists who can write and sing.

He just rides off the whole breakdown thing

Didn't he start the trend for that (in US top 40 songs anyway) with Rihanna WFL?

You could even go as far back as The Time (Dirty Bit), but yeah, I think WFL really kicked off the trend.
