US Charts Discussion (Gaga single tracking: August)

I even doubt S&S would stay that long in the charts without Britney Spears featured on it. Will.i.am does not even have a top 20 hit without someone else is being featured in his record. And besides, S&S is the only top 10 hit he has as a solo artist and as a lead artist for that matter.

I hope S&S don't sell more than Womanizer or Circus. I would be terrible if a song like S&S become her best selling song

Ew. But I'm always here for Jean topping herself. So if she does do it, that's more for me to use when arguing about her relevancy. :derpga:

Well, if S&S end up selling more than Womanizer, I hope she can outsell both with another song from her upcoming album

Radio has expanded far beyond my understanding. It's influence on what is popular hasn't. I'm baffled that there are so many songs now passing 200M in airplay, or getting close to that amount, when in 2011, the highest a song got was perhaps 150M-160M AI. With 100M-105M AI you could crack the Top 5-6 on Radio Songs and now it barely gets you into the Top 10. It's definitely having to do something with labels, because the more radio there is, the more labels can control what gets played.

I remember when TEOG had around 64M AI (from Pop, not as a whole) and it got to #3 on Pop Songs but now if you have around 63M AI from Pop you barely make the Top 10 (S&S is at #10 on Pop and has around 63M AI from that format). The first song I remember to cross 100M AI from Pop alone was Stronger by Kelly Clarkson and since then almost every #1 on Pop Songs has been able to cross 100M on that format. And spins are increasing HEAVILY. I remember Gaga once broke the record for highest spins back in like 2009 and she got like maybe 10,000 spins and now every song in the Top 5 on Pop has 14,000-15,000 spins. :duck:

The numbers you're looking at arent from Nielson Soundscan and are inflated. Nielsen's numbers are the numbers Billboard uses because they're much more accurate.

I have a question, though. Is pop radio actually expanding at the rate represented by the radio charts, or are the chart creators just displaying the data in a way that looks much more impressive to provide the illusion of growth.

Like what asking is if the radio is actually growing, or if more stations either being added or falsely inflated on the panel in order to trick us into thinking they are expanding.

I don't completely understand what you're saying, but there are more pop radio stations starting up (or switching over from other formats) and overall audience impressions are growing. Hope that helps.

I was reading an article about the Australian Open and it mentioned RedFoo was there wearing a t-shirt that said Keep Calm and Bring Out the Bottles, and that it was the title of his next single. Does that mean LMFAO is releasing soon? :wtf: Or is he doing a solo song? :wtf: Either way :wtf: .

Totally sounds like the type of song that will smash too, just from reading the title. :wtf:

It would be most opportune if he'd release that single as part of LMFAO, since there's already an established image (and public prominence) with regard to LMFAO itself, which is a household name within the electronic dance music, rather than going solo. But since they announced the split of the duo last year, it's most likely his single as a solo artist.

He's going solo. That's right. Get ready for RedFoo to be everywhere.
