heavymlover 340
Her peak was 2009. I would say that her peak was 2010. Huge tour sales, great album sales, good single sales, etc. That doesn't say anything considering she has been in the business for less than 5 years and a long career to go. For example, Britney never topped Oops, while MJ didn't have his biggest hit until his sixth album... It works different for everyone, and it doesn't mean that Gaga won't have a bigger song than PF some day.
heavyMetalGAGA 65
What does that have to do with anything? The fact is that she's finally getting there. Yea, it has a lot to do with it. It's kind of delusional of you to think otherwise. Touring grosses, awards, record sales, & strong fanbase >>> single sales. Rihanna has her beat in radio support and a few social media markets, but I don't think that will be for long. And that doesn't even matter, it switches every few years. The fact that gaga is always outgrossing her tours & albums says a lot, especially since rihanna has released more than double the material gaga has. I would say that her peak was 2010. Mills 446
Rihanna is without a doubt more popular than anyone else in the industry at the moment, including Gaga. She has the US and UK markets under her palm, and as the tour receipts of her latest tour show which grossed $90 Million from 98 shows, she's also gradually becoming a touring force to be reckoned with for years to come. Her young age also heavily gives her an utmost advantage than anyone else. 12 multi-platinum HOT 100 #1s, 7 UK #1s, 120 million records sold worldwide, 5 GRAMMYs under her belt, named as the Digital Songs Artist of the 2000s decade, the Top Pop Songs Artist for the last two decades, the top best-selling digital artist of all time in both the US and the UK, I would not be surprised if Billboard would name her as the Artist of this Decade in the future. She has become a pop juggernaut in the process.

But people seem to be forgetting that she has released more than double the material that gaga has and has had nearly the same, if not less, accomplishments (same grammy amount, almost the same digital sales, yet gaga has sold more albums, but riri has her beat in single sales). To me, they're equally popular. But at the moment, riri is more popular than gaga. I don't see that staying though. And gaga's tours outgross riri's by more than a scale factor of two, that says a lot!

Not just this, but Gaga can do better than Rih tour wise and chart wise during the ARTPOP era, and Rihanna will still be more popular/accepted among the general public. Because Gaga and Katy appeared almost at the same time, and they have almost the same amount of music released. It's unfair to compare her (or many other pop stars, for the matter) to Rihanna, because she has 7 albums and a longer career. That's why I don't understand the tour comparisons between Gaga and Madonna. One of them has 30 years of career to back up her status, the other has only 5. Now, it's true that Rihanna is better accepted among the general public, but does that buy your show tickets/albums? Popularity =/= success.
Phlop 4,773
Rihanna has been through 3 (Loud, TTT, and now Unapologetic) eras in the time Gaga has been through 1. BYE

Not just this, but Gaga can do better than Rih tour wise and chart wise during the ARTPOP era, and Rihanna will still be more popular/accepted among the general public. If that's what we're arguing, then yes, rihanna is more accepted by the GP. However, I wouldn't say she's more successful! Mills 446
I do agree that popularity does not right away equate success. I still believe that among the current big three, namely Gaga, Rihanna, and Katy Perry respectively, Gaga is the world's biggest pop superstar, closely followed by Rihanna, and then Katy Perry, if we'd consider the recognitions, the acclaims, the sales, and the impact in the industry. The fact that Billboard named Gaga as among the Most Important Artists of 2012 without any new music material released on that period says a lot. We'd also have to factor that Gaga has been named the Most Powerful Celebrity by Forbes, Most Famous Celebrity on Earth by Guinness, among the Most Influential People in the world by TIME, and even as the Queen of Pop by RollingStone, something any of her contemporaries has not yet achieved. Gaga would also have two consecutive world tours to gross more than $200 million by the time the BTW Ball wraps up in early 2013, yet another feat Katy nor Rihanna can brag about. And how about the fact that Gaga is the only artist after The Beatles to have three consecutive albums to be nominated for the GRAMMY Album of the Year. Regardless of the sales, which is just one component to gauge success, it's quite clear who'd be the most successful among the three in the end, hopefully. Klou 2,414
Rihanna would be clammoring to be Gaga right now. Gaga has released 12 singles... How many has Rihanna had? Yeah. Quantity versus quality. Just because she shoves out 15 singles a year doesn't make her more popular. I can't believe this is even an argument. JudasInTheDark 3
Well I think we can all agree that Gaga has the bigger steady fanbase. Rihanna seems to be one of the only pop girls that even the "guys that are too cool for pop" would listen to. So that's where she has the GP. She appeals to a very wide audience and in areas where typically Gaga tends not to. Impact wise though? Watch down the road- Gaga will be much more iconic and remembered than Rihanna. It's not all about the #1 songs.

It's not all about the #1 songs. And that again has to do with her tactic of quantity. With more songs out there she has more of a chance at some songs appealing to every audience. On the same token I can guarantee those same people can't stand some of her other songs.

You're exactly right. In a lot of ways all of this has worked of great for Rih, but by putting out so much material without good thought behind single selection and such, she has sorta put herself in the mix of typical pop artists where as Gaga badically stands alone. Don't get me wrong though, I do love Rihanna. There's just good reason why Gaga is my fave.
