craig 680
As far as first week sales for ARTPOP are concerned, I estimate a solid 400K-600K AT MOST, 700K if Gaga's team markets the album well and if the lead single performs well. She better sell more than that, as there is a trend for album sales to be more and more frontloaded. That's partly why Swift was able to increase her opening week. The more digitalized the market, the more instant sales week 1. Gaga may have lost casual fans, but not hardcore ones. Taylor had little momentum or buzz before her first single this era. Ozzy8923 9
Well, I suppose. With big artists sales are usually more front loaded. But I honestly don't see Gaga selling beyond that first week, tbh.

Jake 0
*Also, I really don't get what some of you are saying regarding Gaga. America's Sweetheart?! For God's sake, the first thing everyone in America thought when they laid eyes on Gaga was "What the **** is that?!." (Not meant to be offensive, simply an observation). Not much has changed in that aspect. Born This Way was HUGE, was her second #1 on Radio and seventh #1 on Pop Radio, hardly a fall from grace. TEOG reached top 5 on Radio and #3 on Pop and You and I reached #12 on Radio and #7 on Pop (VERY good for an artist who had only released dance-pop songs to radio before that and then came out with a COUNTRY/ROCK ballad! Even Katy and Rihanna struggled to get their ballads to do as well as You and I did. Thinking of You went Platinum and peaked at #29 while California King Bed peaked at #37!). Some of y'all. For God's sake just because she hasn't had radio airplay since October of 2011 doesn't mean she can't come back hard! I mean, KE$HA hand't released a single since February 2011 and a year and a half later she's scoring another Top 5 on the Hot 100 and soon a Top 5 single on Pop. As far as first week sales for ARTPOP are concerned, I estimate a solid 400K-600K AT MOST, 700K if Gaga's team markets the album well and if the lead single performs well. Must I even go into my own fave and mention the fact that the b---h was institutionalized in early 2008 after shaving her head a year earlier (Now THAT was a fall from grace!) and next thing you know she scores her first #1 in a decade and one of her biggest radio hits in late 2008. /rant. Someone's stan goggles are on a little tight People thought she was wacky, but they LOVED her. Everyone at my high school played her constantly from Poker Face to Alejandro. As soon as BTW came around they didn't want to support someone who sang about gay rights (I know, my school is full of idiots) all of my friends stopped listening to her until the very end of the era when some came back on board for Marry The Night, which was actually pretty big where I live. Anyway, BTW's chart positions are great, but compare its performance to her other lead singles in the US. Not even close. 3.7 million for the most awaited song of the last five years is not good. At all. It was too gay, and it alienated a huge demographic. Then came Judas. That was the first time I saw people truly hating her. No pre-album second single should EVER do that poorly when released by the biggest artist in the world. To put things into perspective, BTW had the most singles of any Gaga album but sold by far the least. The Fame (four singles)~20 million. The Fame Monster (three singles)~11 million Born This Way (five singles)~10 million Its album sales are also considerably lower than The Fame (even without the rerelease) and not far off from The Fame Monster which is just an eight track EP. To say that she didn't lose serious momentum with BTW is pretty delusional. Also the BTW single release date was nothing short of magical. The world really was fixed on Gaga. That doesn't dictate its long term performance, however. EDIT: I know this is getting long but deal with it, my writing's fantastic I meant to also put that BTW was a success by every measure. TEOG and Yoü and I were great for her image, and BTW was undeniably a big hit. The only point that I'm making is that she'll have trouble replicating its first week with ARTPOP because the albums single choices resulted in a lot of backlash. The music itself is the best she's ever put out.
craig 680
People were waiting to backlash the BTW era before it even started - all kinds of rival stans and hipsters and people who didn't like her gay rights support in 2010. BTW has outsold all but a couple of Rihanna's solo singles. Not bad. Speak Now didn't sell as much as Fearless either.
Arturo 40,746
I think it's really sad and almost pathetic that Diamonds is doing way better than Skyfall. Skyfall is such a better song than that other average snooze fest. Really? I think Skyfall is the snooze fest. Diamonds is so euphoric

The only point that I'm making is that she'll have trouble replicating its first week with ARTPOP because the albums single choices resulted in a lot of backlash. The music itself is the best she's ever put out. You seem to be forgetting that there will be singles before the album comes out. In America, big pop artists tend to live and die on the charts. After your singles and album are released, everyone forgets you even exist. If Gaga's singles before the album are spot on, people will forget any previous thoughts they've had about her. We are making all these assumptions on how her new album will sell based on her old work. That makes absolutely no sense. Saying that Gaga will sell 600K might seem to be too high now, but then her new material may turn out to be extremely good and she'll smash that prediction. Or, maybe her new music will stink and 600K will be way too high. My point is that you can't predict album sales without hearing the singles that will be promoting the album. That's just silly! Another point I'd like to make is that I feel a lot of casual listeners didn't like BTW as much because it was a lot more preachy. People that really don't care about Gaga's opinions or outlooks on life wouldn't give a damn about the album because that's basically all it includes. That's not to say, however, that if Gaga were to come back with a party single they won't like it. Gaga has already confirmed that the new album will be a lot more fun than BTW was. Finally, I'd like to point out that if it wasn't for 21, everyone would be saying BTW smashed everything to pieces. Maybe her sales and radio peaks for BTW weren't what they were for TF and TFM, but it was still had the best overall chart run of 2011. Name one era, other than 21, that had a better run when you include album sales, single sales, and radio support. I can't think of anyone.
Shaney 5,515
Really? I think Skyfall is the snooze fest. Diamonds is so euphoric Its nothing special, sounds like a more modern version of the R&B **** that was being released before the whole dance music surge. The music itself is the best she's ever put out. I can understand why you feel this way but the truth is the general public is very fickle. They don't have strong opinions about artists and if an artist releases a catchy song you can bet they'll drag their asses to iTunes and buy it in a heart beat. It's as simple as can be. EVERYTHING that they felt during the BTW Era they will forget if Gaga comes out with music that appeals to them. That's just how casual listeners are. Myself included. Because you guys forget that YOU'RE part of the GP too. YOU listen to radio. YOU buy songs on iTunes just like the rest of the world. How have you reacted to an artist you don't like releasing a new song that you like? Would you still purchase it? God knows I hate Rihanna, Madonna, and Christina Aguilera but that doesn't stop me from buying all their ****. :laughga:

Name one era, other than 21, that had a better run when you include album sales, single sales, and radio support. I can't think of anyone. It did change her perception though which does affect sales no matter what her new material sounds like. True, lead singles are a major component, but so is the public's opion of her when they're released. Radio won't support her as heavily and quickly as it did with BTW. Niether will the buying public. This song will have to prove itself considerably more than BTW did. If she's aiming for a big debut, she'll have to release singles that appeal to everyone and stand out on radio. *cough* Bad Romance *cough* I'm not saying the she can't turn her momentum around, just that her lead singles will be affected by what she did during BTW which will in turn affect ARTPOP. It just has to be a really excellent song that can maintain its sales and airplay more than a couple of weeks after its release. Besides, as long as I have ARTPOP in my hands, I'll be happy with any debut numbers. Even if she stopped selling, we all know who makes the best music.
