It's Chain, not Shame

This is the most useless debate this fanbase ever had.

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

I'm 100% sure the lyric is chain. At least that's how it's sung.

However I do believe Gaga could've changed her mind about it like she does with many songs and now decides to say shame instead :laughga:

chaeri pls

There’s a bear trap in the artwork and she’s singing about being freed. It’s chain. Why are people discussing this

It's definitely "shame," you can see her lips make the "m" movement/sound in the Instagram car video.

Wouldn't it be "chains" not "chain"  :oprah: Which is why I still think it's shame.

The question is, is it 'I want your stupid love' or 'I want just to be loved', but we've discussed a lot.

It’s I want your stupid love.

why would the song be called stupid love if she doesn’t even sing that ? Come on drop it lol

in the last chorus she also sings “we got a stupid love”

I want just to be loved is grammatically incorrect. It would be "I just want to be loved", and the song is only repeating the first chorus line, it's not that deep this time.

(if there was any intention the other times)

It's like those messy bottoms with barely any language knowledge fighting over the "I don't want you your love" leak, saying that she sings "I wish is love" or "I'm emotional"

LOL two things

1)The rules of grammar  need not be obeyed in creative work-- of any form. Logic and formality are irrelevant in art.

2)I don't know where you're from, but for me, also being from the NY/NJ area, it is not strange at all to hear, or even adopt (ie dialect), the irregular syntax of non-native speakers of english.

This just be how we do 'round here. You want I should do what about it? 😉

it makes sense! Free Gaga from her shame!:grr:

Even Sia made a song about that:diane:

Gaga has elaborated her feelings of shame numerous times!

From her sexual assault (she told no one for 7 years!!!), from feelings around her rebelliousness ( "why can't I just be a good girl, for my dad" -Z100),  from being bullied (she was too ashamed to tell her parents about the kids who threw her in the trash because she thought they'd agree with them), from "failing at love", as she put it. And multiple times, so publicly, must hurt even more.

Shame is SO effing powerful. It keeps you from reaching out, speaking up,getting help and can make you feel and treat yourself,  like someone undeserving of love.

The lyric--if that is it-- makes perfect sense from Gaga.

Poetically, chain or shame are interchangeable, if you think about it. Something is holding her back either way.
