Tbh I'm not a huge fan of most of her solo work but I really like most of the songs she produces for other artists, mostly Charli (if you couldn't tell by my avi :bon:)

This mentality about her music is what bothers me the most.. I don't mean to offend you but people usually say stuff like ''This music is not for everyone'' when it's just plain bad. You can't come here and say that you actually enjoy that sound at the beginning because it's awful to human ear. It like painter of this saying that not everyone will understand it and critics being there for it when it's literally just nothing and everyone can do it, brings nothing new to the table and is not worth all the celebration:

BTW this is worth 40+ millions. Why? Because ''not everyone can understand it''

This is so dismissive :messga: she works hard on her music and to compare her to a single line on blue paint just because you don't like it is ridiculous. People like different things! To me, heavy metal hard rock screamo music sounds like garbage but some people LOVE that music. Sophie's music is not accessible, it's hard and abrasive and niche but it's also beloved. You don't have to like it to respect it.

I'm not comparing her work to anything. I'm talking about mentality of ''this is not for everyone'' which is kinda shortcut to the ''yea it's probably bad and only few will like it''.. You kinda dismissed the artist of that painting tho saying ''it's just a line'' when they probably spend a lot of time on it (it's worth 40+ million dollars apparently).. I respect some of her work but I will call her out for some stuff that I truly think are unnecessary and only there for her to be ''edgy'' and ''unique''... I loved the song of her that user above shared, I honestly did.. It's just that one song that is truly hard to listen to.

My fave SOPHIE tracks are BIPP, VYZEE, and LEMONADE. I think she makes inventive and playful stuff and that's why I'll give everything of hers at least one spin and an honest try. Not all of it rocks my world but some of it I find genuinely enjoyable! I'm usually sitting alone with my laptop with my headphones on, who would I be trying to 'impress' lol, I'm just grooving and don't need anyone else to enjoy it to feel it myself  and because of that it rolls off me when other people make fun of it (most are just playing around anyway, I know they're not seriously mean)

Yves Klein would not have said "not everyone can understand my work." He was a  satirist!  His work is philosophical and technically v. serious but also an intentional mockery of the art world. This context make his work valuable and/but he'd laugh alongside you if he knew how much his work went for nowadays. It's supposed to be amusing!

Some of his other projects...

"Yves peintures and Haguenault peintures, which were his first public displays of the monochrome series. The books featured apparent reproductions of paintings that, in reality, didn’t exist. His seriousness about his painted works was clearly ambiguous from the beginning: resolutely interested the profundity of direct experience, the books nonetheless emerge as conceptual parodies of the traditional art catalogue."

"In 1958, at the Iris Clert Gallery in Paris, Klein created scandal by inviting 3,000 people to a private exhibition in which he displayed nothing more than an empty cabinet in an otherwise empty room. As part of the spectacle the audience members were offered a blue balloon to carry and a blue cocktail to drink from. He called the exhibition ‘The Specialization of Sensibility in the Raw Material State into Stabilized Pictorial Sensibility: The Void’."

Okay well now this makes A OT of sense! Thank you for the research you did on the artist.. Now I understand this.

Well... it is just a line :ladyhaha: I'm just saying it's obviously harder to make a song than to paint that line regardless of how much it costs :green:

The thing is she IS edgy and unique :ohwell:  but I will admit I don't like every song of hers.
