Stupid Love Lyric Double Meaning

When Gaga sings the chorus:

I want your stupid love

It sounds like:

I want just to be loved

If sung this way, it becomes a plea for love in a celebratory way. Things you find in YouTube. :tony:

Inside, we are really made the same. 🕊

 twice within 1 hour? really?

And no this is not AP policy mods I am just saying it's ridiculous how the same theory can come up so many times. Gagz do a genius verified lyrics video.

I'm still confused. What if she really sings I want just to be loved so it's like 'fu-fu-fu** her face' in Poker Face? :oprah:

It actually has no double meaning considering both phrases would essentially mean the same thing, that she wants love :laughga:

Exactly. The whole meaning changes.

Honestly I don't hear it and I don't think that wording of that phrase makes very much sense:laughga:

Not really. With 'I want your stupid love', she's saying she wants the affections from one person. To top it all of, the word 'stupid' connotes that it's a trivial thing.

With 'I want just to be loved', it becomes an anthem for all of us. It doesn't target a specific person as a source. We all just want to be loved and accepted. It also sounds deeper and more vulnerable, like admitting a weakness instead of wanting something out of desire.

I can also hear, 'I want just to be love', meaning that she wants to be the embodiment of love itself.

I believe this was intentional. Damn, why did I ever doubt Gaga. She's a genius with wordplay.

Inside, we are really made the same. 🕊

It makes more sense than

> Now it's time to free me from this chain
> I want your stupid love

It makes sense if you take into account the line before it:

All I ever wanted was love

then:

I want just to be loved!

Inside, we are really made the same. 🕊

There's a pretty good chance that when she was first developing the song and freestyling melodies and lyrics over the beat, she started out singing "I want just to be loved" and they later developed it into "I want your Stupid Love".

That happens a lot in songwriting! You start out mumbling sounds that fit into the melody, then you turn the sounds into generic words, then you refine the generic lyrics into better ones.
