Economy 52,842
Found this new chart My Country may be #6 but really not that bad when u look at top of list Of course on a per capita terms (per person) this ranking would change significantly Also some Nations became industrialized way earlier than others so their all time totals would naturally be higher than say a Country like China that has only been a big polluter last 30 years or so

dit 46,738
How on earth did Hungary emit so much CO2?! it is such a small nation with a rather small population The most tragic part of this list is that most of the nations involved are relatively developed yet the poorest of nations are the ones that will suffer most from climate change

Besides Canada, USA, Japan and Australia... Europe was basically the only other part of the world that developed and industrialized more quickly Most of Asia & South America did not start to industrialize more until more recent decades and Africa still doesn't pollute much So the countries on the list make sense to me

I'm not surprised by that. I'm only surprised by Hungary being such a major emitor of CO2. It hasnt been a major player in the global economy since the Austro-Hungarian empire collapsed and it never had any colonies abroad to make up for such a huge CO2 output. I am shocked by it. Well back then industrial emissions and even car emissions etc were way worse It may not seem as bad now that wealthy countries no longer do all the manufacturing as much moved to developing countries and whatever remained isn't as polluting as it used to be But 80-100 years ago... Heavy amounts of pollution from a handful of countries basically was the entire earths pollution I read before that in the 1920s car pollution in the biggest cities was making people ill because the exhausts back then we're so toxic Pollution and emissions has gotten worse globally because so much Countries have joined or are catching up to developed world But the developed world itself has improved cuz it single handed produced more pollution than it does now My grandparents tell me in Ontario the great lakes were always off limits to swim in because they were so toxic. Now they are usually open (exept after storm surges) And Toronto for example used to have a heavy haze when I moved there 20 years ago... Now those summer hazy days are like cut in half. It wasn't just cars becoming cleaner or factories and being replaced with Corporate offices... It was also Coal Plants being replaced with green energy Again, the "developed" and "rich" countries in the past were exeptionally toxic A handful of countries on their own started global warming decades before most of the world was using electricity or cars

NCgaga 4,345
I think we need to remember that this is an all time list. The United States has taken huge strides when it comes to pollution(many more could be taken of course)- That's why when you go to a large city in the US, it isn't smog ridden and foggy, like cities in China. If the chart was about current pollution percentages, it would be different.

Don't worry sis, the irony of pretty much everything neoliberalism stands for isn't lost on me. It's the point, just wish others saw it 私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから

Literally no one other than me criticized the US in this thread and even me I was kidding because my country is still #6 on this list so I was jokingly pointing a finger Ppl have commented more on being surprised small Countries like Australia and Belgium and Poland are on the list than they are saying anything about the US So relax. Read the thread again. This gang up against the US is in ur mind no one is talking smack about the US here Same for u @ItsTommyBitch since it appears u quoted him in apparent agreement unless u meant in general and not this thread
Cavadour 2,704
Yeah, Switzerland is not on this list because it's a tiny country. Just try to imagine where in that list you can find Nova Scotia, which for instance is about the same size as Switzerland. Then, size and ratios are also affected by population density and industrialization level... So, no surprise that a huge territory and one of the most industrialized on the planet is obviously on top of the list ! OK, this is not an excuse, just an attempt to put things into perspective... Late to the party but I got a diamond heart
