SEATTLE — Health officials confirmed Saturday one person has died from the 2019 novel coronavirus, otherwise known as COVID-19, in the state.

This is the first known death of COVID-19 in the United States.

EvergreenHealth said the patient came to their facility with "serious respiratory issues" and then tested positive for the virus. There is a second patient that also tested positive who is now in isolation and receiving treatment, according to EvergreenHealth officials.

President Donald Trump addressed coronavirus concerns in a news conference Saturday morning and spoke about the person who died.

"A wonderful woman, a medically high-risk patient in her 50s," said President Trump.

There are currently 15 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Washington Department of Health and Public Health Seattle & King County plan to hold a press conference at 1 p.m. to provide more information.

On Friday night, health officials announced two new cases of coronavirus in western Washington. One is a Snohomish County teenager, and the other is a King County woman.

I don’t want to see any panic in this thread.

The same person most likely would have died if they caught influenza as well

But how many people did she unwittingly infect? We should panic. It’s not just about her it’s entire her community.

A patient went into the hospital that my sister’s friend works at and it’s likely they have the virus. It’s highly likely that my sister’s hospital will get an infected person as well. They’re not panicking.

Ok. Now what?

Well stay away from people who travel alot. The disease spread from one single business conference in Singapore to Italy, South Korea and Iran. It’s already reached sub-saharan africa and Latin America.

Just avoid all unnecessary situations where people are huddled into closed air-conditioned environments.

This is not a guarantee, by any means. Just about risk minimisation. Stock up on household pantry items because what if supermarkets shut down?

You should be more worried about the regular old flu. 1 person dead from coronavirus & y’all wanna panic yet over 10,000 people have died since the start of 2020 from the flu & no one bats an eye. Really? 😂 but yeah, let’s freak out about who this woman infected when people all over are infecting each other with a simple flu that we have a vaccine for.

I meant sensible panicking, like changing behaviours that increase risk, not hysterical panicking. The spread is inevitable. Common sense things like washing hands, covering your cough/sneeze with your elbow, avoiding touching people, avoiding enclosed spaces.

The same can be said for people who have the flu and infect others, but we never ask that question do we?
