Galactastica 314
"Brushes with darkness won't help you create your destiny of self. " About artists being in a bad place in order to create; I totally get it as an artist and I think it's true for many people. It doesn't mean we WANT to see artists in dark places whatsoever - but what we WANT doesn't make it any less true that some people can only create when things are bleak. I don't WANT to be in a bad place so I will deal with going long periods of time without creating. It's just how it is; I'm not one to self sabotage. It takes a lot of work and training in order to still create without the darkness present. Sometimes it works and I can, but most of the time I cannot. I find other things to focus on and keep practicing being able to create in the light. I have the feeling Gaga has often worked this way too, just from her lyrics and visuals. I wouldn't want her to be in a dark place, but I will take what her darkness creates and love it. I am overjoyed to be taking something her light and happiness creates, too, and love it. Glamourpuss 29,062
Yes! You can tell she's a lot happier and I agree that it's infectious. I think it's one of the reasons I love the new video. When she's dancing with all those people it makes me want to be a part of it.

OMonster 14,720
Not disagreeing that she's obviously in a better place to where she has been - but in her interview with Zane, she explained how she was surprised the music she was writing was happy because, inside, she wasn't feeling so happy. She spoke of feeling very down during the recording process. I think that's what makes Stupid Love (and, I would think, the rest of the album) so moving, though, is the fact that she's produced happy, joyous and life-affirming music out of sadness. It's usually the case that sadness generates quite dark and moody music - but Gaga has found that, this time, making other people happy, and writing music that's filled with euphoria, is how her creativity has cut through her struggles. It adds an extra layer to it all, for me. Like, yeah, Stupid Love is a fun bop - but it comes from pain. And I think you can feel that pain, too. Maybe I'm saying that because I'm a fan, but the song has a lot of melancholy in it for me - her voice, it's filled with emotion. And to bop along to a fun song that's been written and sang by someone who has used that happiness as a medicine to get through is, imo, really special. subtext / fantasy
Donny Winter 293
I agree with much of what many have said in this thread. I feel as though Gaga is coming from a place of complete happiness and empowerment. Interestingly, I think A Star is Born did a lot for her when it comes to confidence. It further solidified her in pop culture, boosted her faith in herself as an actress and musician. A hybrid can withstand these things / my heart can beat with bricks and strings
