Medicare for all - John Oliver

PartySick

He tackles the three main counter arguments against M4A (cost, waiting times, and choice), details our current system, touches on "M4A who want it", and is candid about the tough battle we have ahead of us for healthcare but explains why he thinks it's worth it.

It's 20 minutes but so worth it.

You'd have to be crazy to not support M4A in my opinion.

Almost every well off country has medicare for all. In my country we've had it forever! It works, so don't know why it's such a messy issue in the US.

I'm sure it is, but honestly...if you aren't for M4A at this point, what are you doing? Tens of thousands of people are dying out here because of corporate greed and some false American notion that social programs = inevitable Fahrenheit 451 or some BS Orwellian dystopian nonsense. We got money for war and corporate subsidies/welfare but not for our citizens. :trollga:

Because voters and lawmakers find it really scary!

The trust for the government is really low, especially since Trump. And the trust that the government can run a huge program competently is even lower!

I do not think M4A is a bad idea. I think it is where we need to go as a country.

But I also now how terrified Americans are of the governments taking a privately owned good away (insurance). That is why, ***for now***, I supposed Medicare For All Who Want It

It's a bridge to get us where we need to go. We can't just warp speed to M4A.

I mean it could be a bit of a mess innitially I suppose most GGD members haven't thought of that

Anytime u transition something huge into a completely different system say private to universal there's a bumpy transition

I do think tho that after any innitial caos a universal system would be far better for many reasons

There needs to be a transition plan tho... It's not the plan in principal that I'm putting into question as in the type of system

I'm talking about the technicalities of it

A transition to say universal under Bernie would require new departments, agencies etc to run stuff... And different type of connection between hospitals... issue and set up a new type of document like the universal healthcard etc

I think the little technicalities behind the scenes noone thinks about is actually the harder part because there's so many details to workout in a new system

I think that's where the mess would be for a short time after transitioning

Every country with a national health care system has varying medical services it will pay for. Hospital trips and doctor visits are almost certainly included. There is wide variation on how health care systems cover things like vision, dental, and mental health.

A more generous health care plan is going to require more tax revenue to pay for all that health care.

Even Medicare has a limited benefit package. It does not cover prescription drugs, nor does it pay for eyeglasses or long-term care. Senior Citizens take out supplemental policies to pay for those services.

Most people agree with m4all or m4all who wanted it. How do u get there is the question. Unfortunately, even if admire John, he doesnt offer the answer.

If u look closer, he raises some concerns with Bernie s plan, but he also raises other concerns with Pete s plan. So a lot of contradictions, which is disappointing for the first episode of the season.

However, if u dont know much about the subject, watch it.
