The 'green' movement bbn only want to focus on the end result ...no fossil fuel..

the transition will kill a lot of people if we try to do it cold turkey .

That’s why it amazes how many people lap up the pipe dreams of Presidential candidates who then shrug when asked how this dream will be achieved.

Ikr

But it makes so much sense if it's done safely

That fukushima incident etc is still quite raw

But France is numero uno in nuclear power and they seem to be doing quite well though

There's so many alternate resources out there too :enigma:

My favorite is He-3, common on the  Moon. About two tons of the stuff could power the US for a year with ZERO pollution or radioactivity using nuclear fusion.

Of course we aren't going to be mining helium from the Moon any time soon or using fusion generators but still :huntyga:

All the ways we could power our society and we choose one of the dirtiest.

If you want solar panels, buy them and install them on your roof. As soon as electrical companies see a decline in profits the will assimilate or go bankrupt. Don't assume any politician is going to do the work of saving the planet for you.

I don't agree or really disagree with the Bernie statement but honestly this is very on point.

Like I said, the businesses will be fine. They'll adjust themselves as the market and needs change.

Minor, individualized changes like this accomplish nothing.

The vast, vast majority of climate-killing emissions are produced by corporations and global militaries, entities that get away with it because bribed politicians have legalized the practices that produce such emissions.

We need comprehensive, government-enforced measures to eliminate gas emissions and retool our economy such that we're entirely operating on renewable energy. Individual acts won't address systemic problems. Waiting on some magical hand of the market to intervene got us where we are today.

Sure business will be fine …

which one?

Supply economics ,  I bet you could use a brush up in that subject...

….

Like ,  said business makes money supplying product to a consumer ...

then ...

supply is cut off for 'green' law to take effect ...

now said business has to find another commodity to 'buisness'  ….

sounds utiopian  … but the reality is far from this ideal scenario …

converting to a green economy is important, but the 'emergency'  is in waking up everyone and making changes that are pragmatic and fair to everyone who is part of the economy....

Like hydel power which also provides huge returns

Nuclear power has certain risks and history has correctly made us doubt our handling of it. (Chernobyl)

Don't bring politics into every argument I was making a general point.

So it seems Sanders has good aspirations, but not a path to make them happen. He basically makes promises that he knows that he cant deliver.

Edit : after looking a little bit more information on the subject, it seems that it's not as black and white as the host put it. It still remains a huge  challenge that probably wont happen for multiple of reasons, but theoretically, if all the people in the world would agree with Bernie s plan, it seems that it's not imposible.

Here we go trying to demerit this awesome man. Of course he doesn't know everything! And he will for sure get himself surrounded by people who actually knows how to provide solutions. It's almost as if people are expecting him to find the cute for cancer, hiv and basically EVERYTHING. He's shown during his long career as a politician that he cares and acts. Don't drag him, help him.

Uhh... No, the emergency is in getting lawmakers to begin acting yesterday because we're operating on limited time.

And "pragmatic and fair to everyone part of the economy" is being used as a crutch that really means "lets protect the financial interests of the most wealthy corporations who have been destroying the planet intentionally for decades" when the smart thing to do for the environment would be to stop them as quickly as possible.

SOME radical change has to happen to do this. There isn't a way for *everyone* to be happy and get what they want and also move towards a green economy. Tinkering at the edges won't work for this one. Luckily proposals like the GND and other related ones already *do* try to mitigate damage to the people and small businesses where possible

We can only express our concerns and interests to them … 'getting them to' do anything is a wait and see prospect …

delcaring 'emergency' only pushes rational thinking people the opposite way ...

the climate 'catastrophe' is a slow and gradual event in terms of human perception... plus climate change is and will always be a threat regardess of human activity, history has proven this time and again …

live in a panic state about something that you or even all the US can't do is silly and a waste ...

Yes people saying "go do it, don't expect politicians to change it" forget that some major pollutions  CAN'T be prevented with personal initiatives... Sadly these major pollutions that only the law could stop are often the equivalent of millions of people pollutions so we could all make many sacrifices and it still wouldn't balance for these... :koons:

A company that pollute like millions of individuals while making profits will rarely change its ways for the greater good when it brings a smaller profitability. We just have to look around to see it, they often pretend to care for PR purpose once many people do but they don't change much actually. :/

Also for everybody to go buy a solar panel ( "instead of waiting for the politician" etc ) you need everybody to be able to pay for it and seing that 40% of Americans can't deal with a 400 bucks emergency bill it's clear that not everybody will have these on installed anytime soon so betting on this solution for the planet is a loosing bet. :icega:
