Additionally it's not just solar, it's wind as well. It's about getting the right mix in order to balance the grid. Climate Change is an emergency. There is no time at all for the bare ass scraping minimum that others are offering. Honestly solar alone would do for states in the South. Solar panels pay for themselves after a few years here, especially now that they're sooo much cheaper and more efficient than ever. I haven't looked up how well they do up north but our favorite European countries are literally paving their roads in solar panels so they must work. The sun doesn't stop providing energy when it's cloudy and you can store excess energy. Idk how widespread it is but here in Florida you can actually sell excess energy to FPL (Florida Power and Light) to save on your light bill. Then they can redistribute that across the grid. It's a fair point that Bernie's goals are a bit "run before you can crawl" but my two counter points would be 1) climate change is an emergency and requires immediate and drastic action. And 2) out of any viable candidate, Bernie's the best choice to get us on the right track, even if he doesn't hit his goals. Help get out the vote and VOTE in the primary and general I'd love to see trump go away forever! spread love ,kindness & compassion 👹🖤!!!!
MissKombucha 308
Climate change is NOT an emergency. Obviously it’s known that earths climate has never been static and it’s warming and cooling has never been predictable and rates of cooling and warming. The Roman and Medieval Warm periods were both 2 - 4 degrees warmer on average than today - a rate of warming that some predict is disastrous - actually was a point of affluence and high crop yields for those societies. Global cooling resulted in famine due to lower crop yields and desertification of parts of the Sahara. To assume that human activity is the sole reason for climate change and that our activity can do anything to alter is laughable at best. what we SHOULD be focusing on are alternative farming methods (this would end factory farms / deforestation for agriculture /create food independence per town , city etc. The increased development of biodegradable bio-plastics. Cloning practices to increase food yields fit growing human populations. Education on crop development on parts of the world struck by famine. Etc. Halting the rate of warming by a decimal of a percentage will do nothing but halt our progress and shift focus from actual beneficial processes. Plus the United States led a reduction of CO2 emissions in 2019 and the western world follows suit - the largest CO2 producers like China and India will not change. We can have a zero carbon footprint - wouldn’t change a thing if China is still acting as they are now (and good luck changing that)
Nikolai Barrow 1,337
This kind of thinking holds back the progress of humanity. When a government really applies itself and it's resources it's absolutely amazing what can be accomplished. Was it magical thinking when JFK said that they would go to the moon within a decade? When at the time america couldn't even get a man into space yet! If the united states (and other countries) spent less resources on wars and more on advancements in green energy and building a green infrastructure it could definitely be accomplished! Nobody says it's the "sole reason", but the fact that it's the dominant factor over the last few centuries is not an assumption. It's extremely well-founded science. Tell me again about the Medieval Warm Period? What a ****ing joke. There's nothing else like the current trend in human history... and very little like it in the natural history of Earth. I’ve attached a link that provides a list of physicists , biologists, climate scientists etc that have public ally claimed their counter-beliefs to the current hysteria local claim that “we’re in the middle of a climate crisis”. https://electroverse.net/the-list-scientists-who-publicly-disagree-with-the-current-consensus-on-climate-change/ These people are scientists - what’s your view on their stances ? There’s also extensive articles that go into the explanation of how the claim that “97% climate sciences are in a consensus” is misleading as per the methods of the Meta-analysis itself (this is why research classes are so important for everyone to take so no one falls into the trap that is mainstream explanations of scientific research). The answer is No - scientists across all fields of research are NOT in agreement when it comes to the causes the severity of even the results of climate change

Mama no one said it isn’t a fact - what’s being argued is the severity the cause and the results. And those arguments are between scientists across a variety of fields show come from a variety of ethnic religious and political backgrounds. What people need to remember is that climate is not static so to believe that our environment needs to and WILL remain the same as per our needs is naive

Love the chart from Wikipedia. here’s a collection of some of the papers concerning the medieval warm period https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/earth-and-planetary-sciences/medieval-warm-period you are always aware of the controversy concerning the MWP correct ? And how the ICPP has ignored or asked for the removal of such data ? Look up David Demond’s testimony to the US Senate Committee from 2006 of the ICPP’s request to remove the data... also that well founded science is argued by a series of scientists from all fields and all backgrounds. I provided a list a few pages up. No one is arguing over the validity of global warming - what needs to be argued is cause severity and outcome and the overall hysteria that people seem to be comfortable with
