Can u elaborate on this (because I’m genuinely curious how you believe artists vs. producers make their money?)

"As well as ruling that Kesha had defamed Dr. Luke, Schecter ordered that Kesha must pay Dr. Luke over $373,000 in interest for her late payment to him on over $1.3 million in royalties."

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.vulture.com/amp/2020/02/judge-rules-kesha-defamed-dr-luke-lady-gaga-katy-perry.html

Meaning when you listen to Kesha's new work the money only goes to him when she wants to, or has to. Meanwhile when you listen to kim or anyone that he directly works with, the money goes straight to his pockets.

I was in the process of answering your comment but you edited it so I'll answer what's  left of it

Kim Petras, a super talented and hardworking trans artist, deserves much better than being written off because of what you think of her producer :)

anyone who not only works with a rapist but also OPENLY supports and endorses him, is a disgusting person in my book. I don't care if she's trans or hardworking or the second coming of jesus.

Even if you don't believe kesha, other artists like pink, kelly, avril, demi, charli, becky g and more have spoken up about how abusive he is. There's also a whole twitter thread that I've linked earlier that exposes a lot of the disgusting things he's done to Kesha and others.

Also, I heard the song and it is actually great :)

Good for you. Personally, there's plenty of songs and artists that I can listen to that doesn't result in a rapist getting a hold of money that enables them in ruining someone's life even further. Just like there's plenty of  producers who she could've worked with.

friendly reminder that by supporting kim you're putting money onto dr *uke's hands to destroy kesha's life even further

By that logic we shouldn't be buying Kesha's records either :triggered:

Sry I had edited to make my initial comment way more concise :)  I agree with you overall, but I also believe Dr. Luke’s actions, or accused actions whatever, do not define Kim or take away from the fact that she’s a good artist.

That's the only issue that I have here. Kim's her own artist. As if I'm thinking about the producer behind the song:toofunny: If the music's great, then that's all that counts:giggle:

But her choosing to work with a rapist/abuser willingly says a lot about her as a person.

So I’m no music industry lawyer nor do I ever plan on being one but the sentence right after the one you quoted from that article says:

“Not only must Kesha pay interest, but Schecter rejected Kesha’s sole remaining counterclaim against Dr. Luke asking to be let out of her contract with KMI, Dr. Luke’s record label, which continues to collect royalties from Kesha’s music. (It’s unclear if he’ll profit off her newest album, High Road, too.)”

The part in bold is a link to another article from Aug 2017:

Spoiler

“Despite exiting as CEO of Kemosabe, Dr. Luke is said to still have ties to Sony, though the extent of their relationship is unknown. In a call with Vulture, a Sony representative says that the label does not talk about Dr. Luke, and declined to comment on the nature of his involvement with Rainbow. With days to go until the album’s release, neither side will say if Dr. Luke maintains a financial stake in Rainbow, even after his split from Kemosabe. Vulture spoke with representatives for Kesha, Dr. Luke, Sony, and RCA Records (the Sony subsidiary distributing the album) who would not clarify whether Luke stands to pocket any money Kesha earns from Rainbow,or just how involved his various companies are behind the scenes. Questions about whether Kesha self-funded the album — which both Kesha and Sony claimed was the case prior to the album’s recording — or its promotion, including the three music videos she’s released so far and an upcoming tour, went unanswered.

It appears that even Kesha’s collaborators have been left in the dark as well: A publicist for Ricky Reed told us they didn’t have information on who owns the publishing rights for the songs he produced on the album, including “Learn to Let Go” and “Hymn,” but would look into it. In the past, the publishing for Kesha’s songs belonged to Luke’s Prescription Songs, a company that’s home to his army of in-house producers and songwriters. If the songs on Rainbow are still published under Prescription — and since Kesha has not legally been allowed to make any changes to her contract, they would be — Luke essentially owns them. That’s likely the case for songs that were written as far back as 2014, one of which will reportedly appear on Rainbow.

So going off of this, it seems to me he has publishing rights for any song published under his label. And if Rainbow and High Road are published under his label, he more than likely makes a profit for every stream, purchase, performance, and use in commercials, movies & tv:

But no one has made an official statement on whether or not he does profit from her post 2017 music so there is still the chance that he doesn’t.

And like I said before too, I have zero knowledge when it comes to legalities of music rights and publishing and all that corporate mumbo jumbo. Just my two cents

Yeah I'm aware of this, as I said in a previous comment I avoid listening to anything produced by him even ones where he's a ghost-producer (that includes kesha's albums prior to rainbow).

As for rainbow and highroad (as you said it's unclear whether he earns money from those or not), but if he does, in an article I posted earlier it's stated that the money doesn't go to him without kesha's permission or without her paying it to him (since she owes him interests money due to not paying him his royalties for a long time). So at least that's a way I can support her career in without dr *uke benefiting directly from her.

Here’s the thing...you’re judging her entire character now. I thought I agreed with your perspective in general but I think this “cancel culture” mentality is actually toxic. Judging Kim is not doing anything to actually SUPPORT Kesha or any survivor of abuse.

That was a response to this

"Dr. Luke’s actions, or accused actions whatever, do not define Kim or take away from the fact that she’s a good artist."

His actions don't define her, true, but her willingness to work with him and support him does. If you don't think there's anything bad in not only associating with but also supporting a rapist/abuser then I don't know what to say.

Ngl you seem like you radiate arrogance with your comments on this. Good for you that you think your so special because you have a stance on this one issue. Doesn't make you Jesus and it doesn't mean you should pass judgement on others so quickly. It's gross. If you really cared you wouldn't feel the need to act so superior.

Where did I say I'm better than others? There was a number of comments telling me if I don't listen to kim then I shouldn't listen to x, y and z so I clarified that I don't.

I didn't attack any members here or judged them, all of my comments were about kim and luke, and all of them I was polite in. So I don't get where all this is coming from.
