While you're totally right that usually that's the case, let's not act like there are not women who give the bare minimum on their performances too.

I am not going to list their names  :teehee:

You know im enjoying intentions, not to pull a britney but i think justin is talented. There were some times which he was into the music and interacting and the latent talent jumped out.

The thing i like is that he has rythm, and tbh not everyone has that, talking bout singers. The intro with trio contradicts cause it was not it, mostly cause range and hes so sloppy. But hes totally capable.

Im twisted its like i like it but its kinda bland. Im curious for the album. Lol never heard a jb album hmm

Hmm... I get what you're saying but I still disagree. Even if Enigma is "better" than these Biebs performances from some points of view, he still delivered what he's supposed to deliver while Gaga didn't. Biebs' performance was solid while Gaga's was a disappointment.

I'm not interested in comparing Gaga to Bieber or other "mediocre presentations" by other artists lol. Why? They're playing two different ballgames. What you're asking is that I compare a Big Mac to an undercooked, badly seasoned and presented burger from a gourmet kitchen and say that because it's prepared in a gourmet kitchen and the chef says it was prepared according to the highest standards (a play on Gaga saying she held herself to the highest standard at some Enigma dates), the lousy inedible burger wins by default. That's not fair. I'd rather go for a Big Mac 'cause its mediocrity is both predictable and pleasing because I'm getting what I'm paying for.

Probably digging my own grave but yeah. I don't see the point in having to state that Lady Gaga is better than Justin Bieber. That should go without saying. Why we're even trying to compare the two is more horrifying to me. Shouldn't we be more concerned about comparing her to someone like Björk or Madonna? If we have to pat ourselves on the back because she's beating Bieber of all people, then Gaga is really not delivering, my god :smh:

At this point you're judging Gaga by her history and not the show and only the show itself, therefore Enigma is a disappointment to you even if everything within it is stronger and rated as better than all the aspects in the Bieber performances. There is nothing wrong with judging someone by their own standards, let me clarify that. However, by doing so you also derive meaning not from what you actually see and hear but the relationship between compared items. If let's say, because I'm not a professional singer, the bar for me is low, and maybe if I sing decently and because of that everyone would praise me. Still it doesn't mean I have exhibited the standards of say, Beyonce or Gaga. If you take out these productions out in isolation and ignore history, I'm sure most would say Enigma is of higher quality, and therefore rendering the Bieber performances the actual disappointment here.

There is something problematic with your analogy to gourmet and fast food. With food, you pay for them. With higher prices, comes higher expectations. With lower prices, comes lower expectations. With judging performances, we are not paying for anything. So where do our expectations lie? Most people would judge a performance based on what society normally perceives as great, that is a comparison to what is generally regarded as a great performance in the music industry. You however, choose to judge a performance based on what has been done by that performer in the past. In that case, the bar goes higher and higher and higher and higher, so you're saying Gaga could do 200 things right and still be deemed a disappointment and Bieber could do like 5 things right and he's a pleasant success just because only 2 things are expected of him?

Lastly, Imma try to modify your analogy to best reflect what I think is reality. 'Inedible' and 'lousy' are too much of a distortion imo. The Big Mac remains a Big Mac, but the gourmet food is at worst, perhaps not as good as its prime version, though still very much delicious and attractive to people who know how to appreciate.

But yeah there are people like me who think Enigma is of equivalent or better quality to the Born This Way Ball, based on my experience as an attendee.

Queen Bitch

It was okay. But am I the only one who don't mind his new style? Especially in the Intentions performance.
