Shaming women for being sexual.. Kinda expected..

I'm not shaming them. I'm just saying: should we applaud them for presenting that "idea" to us in 2020? Why should we? I don't see why we should. I don't see why we couldn't have applauded JLO coming out in sweats and no make-up slaying a choreographic routine. Why does she have to be on a damn stripper pole?

Why is the only way older women can prove they're still relevant by trying to be as hot as a 20 year old? Because women like Shakira and JLO refuse to switch things up, that's why. They're defending an old paradigm: that women should act like wh-res on stage and be called "empowering". Nah. I'm over that and I'm not gonna shut up about it either because it's not politically correct.

Try doing it and you'll the the amount of talent it needs to look as perfect as she did.. I honestly thought we left that ''women can't be sexual'' thing in 2000s...

I'd rather look at twigs doing the stripper pole thing because at least she makes it artistic and visually provoking. Not "look at me look at me look at me am I still sexy am I still relevant". Why aren't you guys expecting more is my genuine question.

Has she? You mean the few Latin pop hits that hardly anyone knows

This one was one of her not so good performing singles lately. We would be lucky if at least Gaga pulled this steaming numbers with stupid love.

So if we're basing this on global basic radio pop hits, you're saying Shakira is a bigger force in the pop music industry than Gaga? :madge: Who believes that?

People will bop to whatever trend hopping music her record will ask her to record but that doesn't mean anyone cares about her. I mean, clearly I was wrong about that since people apparently do care but I'm over it. The last couple of years in pop music have been defined by people who raised the bar to make the genre more interesting, complex and thought-provoking. Shakira lip-syncing and shaking her ass is not a standard I want to return to.

I’m not comparing them in that sense, but you saying that she’s a has been and that she just shakes her ass probes how much of an uncultured person you are. With only 52 shows, her latest tour pulled out 75M dollars (two of those dates took place at the biggest Stadium in Mexico  and sold out with a capacity of 130K people for both days).

Those dance moves are honoring the culture of many Colombian dancers and even if she wanted to shake her ass for the sake of doing so, who do you think you are to underestimate or dictate how a woman should express her integrity and talent?

"Chantaje" alone has 2.5 BILLION views on YouTube.

Basically this plus

Shakira's career started 30 years ago in 1990. Rio or whatever are literal babies to understand her influence. :spin:

You sound like her:

I'm a woman and if I want to act like a wh0re I ****ing will. If I want to dance on pole for million to see I ****ing will and you A MAN will not stop me or shame me because of that! Let's get that clear. Also so sad that out of all the things you saw you call her ***** for doing 2 moves on pole? WTF man? I as a woman feel extremely offended by what you're saying! It is not your body, it is not your right to shame a woman for showing her body and it will never be! Get out!

You know, the world is more than just English-speaking countries :triggered:

Shakira is a huge Latin American icon, has been for longer than Gaga’s career.

Uncultured? :rip: We're talking about pop stars here, relax. The Avengers movies are now also some of the highest-selling films of all time but that doesn't mean they deserve our admiration.

Again: it's 2020. We don't need Shakira to be the grand artist who's gonna teach us about authentic Colombian culture :toofunny: We have a plethora of quality artists at our fingertips every day and people are more and more interested in exploring "ethnic" grey areas in music and art in general in a serious way. Shakira is a pop star who has become a cultural cliché, not someone who pushes us to appreciate whatever it is you think she's secretly communicating in her work :smh:

Anyway, that's just my take. I'm not dictating anyone to stop shaking their ass. I'm just saying I hope that as a public, we've grown to expect more from performers than act like we're all straight men jacking off at home. I definitely have.

@Didymus You are one of my favorite members, but you are in the wrong here. Feminism is about breaking women out of boxes, not about breaking them out of old boxes and putting them in new boxes.

How people still give a damn about these hasbeens is totally beyond me, wow :rip: Am I reliving 2003 or what.

It's funny because people have said this about Gaga in the past too. :giggle:

Also, calling them has-beens when Shakira has 27 million listeners on Spotify (same amount as Gaga) doesn't make you look good either.

Feminism is also not going "yaaasssss omg JLO!!! slay queen, she looks so geeeeeewd, shake that ass mama!! she did THAT!!".

I'm all for women acting like wh-res if they want to. But this wasn't two women getting their freak on for good fun. They were serious. They were serious in the act of objectifying themselves, no irony whatsoever. I'm just concerned about the message that sends.

We're living in a world where Billie Eilish has to wear baggy sweats all the freakin' time so people aren't all "ooooh girl look at those milky titties!" and focus on her songs instead. We're not out of the woods yet and there's always a risk of cloaking old habits (i.e. grown women enacting a straight male fantasy on stage) in "empowering" language.

This whole show just reminds me of what I hoped pop music was growing out of. I'm all for women showing off their dancing skills but if you put a group of professional female dancers up there instead of Shakira and JLO, it would've been a kick-ass show, no looking at the camera seductively required. I couldn't even focus on the dancing because I was so distracted by JLO trying to be "hot". And for what? Apparently she thinks that's the only way she can deliver a show. And that makes me sad.

And lastly, @Didymus your posts are not going to age well when Gaga dances to "Stupid Love" with her ass out on stage in about a month.

So what, suddenly we all think Gaga is nothing more than a girl on stage shaking her ass? I can't believe some of the comments I'm seeing here. What Gaga is doing as a pop star, as a celebrity, couldn't be more different than what Shakira and JLO were doing :rip: Lady Gaga, as an act, has never been about benig "regular sexy". She's doing something far more interesting and thank GOD she is.

hasbeens? those ''hasbeens'' did one of the best SB shows ever and you can stay bitter.. not one artist who is popular today and new to the scene could do what these ladies did..  God..

Thanks for putting people in their right place with their comments full ignorance and hatred

Yes it is. Nothing is more feminist that cheering on a woman.

They can objectify themselves if they want to. Not allowing women to objectify themselves because you don't think it's feminist is actually very anti-feminist.

Oh nooooo.. Billie DECIDED to wear those clothes, no one's forcing her to.. If she wants she can wear them. If she's not comfortable with showing her body that is okay! If she want to walk naked with stickers on her private part that is okay too!

You honestly don't see the problem with you calling them whores over and over again? IF THEY WANT TO SHOW THEIR BODY AND TO DANCE ON POLES THEY CAN AND SHOULD - WOMEN CAN DO WHATEVER THEY WANT TO.

What the hell is not clicking?????

I'm sorry to tag you here but something needs to be done about this  @Admin
