I don’t see the big deal in this.
you sort of give up a huge portion of your privacy when you get famous.
everyone should know this by now.

Lets have an exercise in empathy, shall we:

Imagine a loved one. Think of their face.Think of what they mean to you and what you love about them.

Imagine you're going about your life in the world and someone approaches, maybe tears in their eyes ...I'm so sorry about _____

Wtf is going on? You're immediately confused, you start to panic and feel dread churn your stomach, because the most horrible scenarios of ...y'know what, that guys stupid and doesn't know what their talking about. They must be confused. Someone would've contacted me. Right?

Imagine being approached by several more people, saddened but they too recoil in dismay that they know some horrific detail about ____ before you , of all people, do.  You  try to contact friends and family but are bombarded with call and texts  from the media who wanna talk about ______. No messages from police though.

Wtf is happening!!!

It's a miracle you made it home, you could barely get the keys in the ignition, your hands were shaking so much. You turn on the tv and on every channel you see ______ birth and death year over pics and video of them in their prime mixed with that place or vehicle you know they were in, obliterated. They all say confirmed by TMZ. Wtf? What do they know? Is this a joke?Have the police confirmed? You are devastated, confused, enraged and spiralling. You try the police again but their lines are tied up because so many media, as you'll find later, we're calling for details. It will be another hour, if not more --of calls from nosy media and friends and family also desperate for info-- before the police finally get through to you.

Having to yield some of privacy does not extend to this bullshit

A human being is a human being.

Someone's celebrity is not a license to disrespect their humanity or leave decency and respect by the wayside.

They are just working and doing their job as a news

It wasn't confirmed when they reported it. So that's problem #1. Problem #2 is that they could have simply reported a crash, which was verifiable fact from, well, looking lol or if they wanted to inch towards impropriety and get celebrity scoop, they could have reported that Kobe Bryant *may* have been on-board.

So I get this argument 100%. My husband works for the news but they always make sure not to release victims names before police release them. He’s even been fussed at by random people in Facebook for posting photos of a car accident without names because the victim’s family may be able to identify them via the vehicle. I just don’t agree with releasing names before family is contacted. Think about if your loved one died in some horrible tragedy and the news was the way you found out.

Thank you.

Some people on this site need to learn that just because something can be done, doesn't mean it should.

News??? Do not mistake TMZ for The New York Times. They do not respect the standards of ethical journalism.

They are not interested in fairness or decency. They want your nudes, they want your mugshots, they want pics of your dead body and are willing to squeeze that medical examiner, with mortgage about to default, to get it.

They are a gossip rag that are really good at what they do: leech and scavenge peoples lives for money. To conflate their m.o. with actual journalism is a grave mistake.

Thank you guys for explaining this in more depth

Im sure would agree that tmz can report whatever they might want (as we have seen in other celebrities deaths), I used to think they were an object for the public (in a way not that serious people:huntyga:), and once they reach a level of fame well they are ****ed :huntyga:

and I get it

out of respect one must have the decency to not defame or put out to the world to see in such a vulnerable state/situation Etc,.

Thank you and I hope others understand as well as I did.

I understand that it's not cool of TMZ, but I Don't think it's their fault at all

Come on, his family still wasn't told after over an hour??? That's what really shocking honnestly

TMZ is an absolute bog roll of a website. :neyde:

They also have strong ties to Trump, and its why their coverage of him is pretty lax.

The pd was doing their job and making sure their info was correct before contacting families and making official statements. How long should it take to access and extinguish a crash site on fire, and making sure all 9 passengers were id'd, accounted for, and  confirmed deceased before delivering life-altering information to these families? As an official authority, you cannot get that sh!t wrong.

The point is, TMZ and others didn't have the respect and basic decency to do due diligence about info that will circle the world in minutes.

my question is why the police couldn’t move faster than TMZ?

Cuz someone with/around the police prob called the tip line for cash instead of doing their damn job and letting police do theirs. Hollywood is a town full of snitches and TMZ has contacts everywhere.

An emt called TMZ while on site at Michael Jackson's house......the police didn't even arrive yet!!!!

How do you stop that??? How do you fix someone's broken moral compass?
