This is the man who just recently admitted to selling out US troops to an authoritarian government and using the humanitarian crisis he created in Syria (where hundreds of civilians died) to take over the country's oil reserves.

I don't know if this opinion is so foolish that he should be in a mental institution. There's experts who aren't so convinced the costs are worth it and that there's also draw backs:

It's years away. The proposal is for 2022 and the strength of hurricanes keep growing because water temperatures keep increasing. .

It's a six mile stretch of sea wall to protect from storms.

From my understanding tho it seems like there's legitimate concern that this would not only be expensive but potentially insufficient anyway and that it won't help other issues like the general rise in sea level

 

So Im wondering. Could the money better be spent perhaps building walls on the actual coast lines as this would not only help protect city from storm surges but also prevent sea entry in general as sea levels rise???

 

Depending on the estimates, Sea levels could rise 3 feet or more by 2100, there's a lot NYC that storm or not would he under threat with that much rise...

 

So I wonder wouldn't it be more cost effective to kill 2 birds with one stone and build costal wall that would help with both surges AND generally higher levels?  Cuz thing they are proposing won't help with the latter

So while I do not agree with Trump on a lot of things (or the way he goes about them). Sea walls are not a good idea. They cause damages ecologically and can cause even more erosion than they are trying to prevent. I remember looking into this with one of my 5th grade classes when we were studying weather/erosion. (One I taught no was in.) I want to say we looked at examples from Florida and Texas because NC doesn’t use them and we have our share of hurricanes. I’m assuming the wall they’re thinking of building would be something similar that they have in Galveston? As a big sea turtle lover, I don’t think it’s a good idea because you’re taking away nesting sites and other habitats. (Although I know there aren’t many sea turtles in NYC.)

Mops and buckets. They won't save a foundation of a home or anything in water's path.

I've seen first hand what 9 feet of water can do to a home. This is highly offensive to me, his affluence is showing. People lost everything because of these storms, he will never know what it's like to basically build your life up again from scratch cutting through red tape.

Wouldn't maybe shore walls be better tho?

 

On his part he may be shrugging off problems as usual but there's legitimate concern that what they are proposing won't be enough longer term anyway and it's up being a waste of money
