Volume levels on certain old songs

I don't know if it's just my earphones (I have BeatsX Wireless - not amazing but not budget either), but I've noticed on some old Gaga songs, Bad Romance and Scheiße to name a couple, the volume levels kind of go up and down very slightly, especially around the choruses. It's a bit distracting. I don't know any technical terms so I'm not even going to try, but it's like the music sometimes dips to the background or adjusts volume in a very noticeable way.

Is this a commonly known thing or just my earphones? I've never noticed it before but then I've always had cheap earphones before...

I've also noticed songs like Heavy Metal Lover, Perfect Illusion and Shallow also sound much lower in volume compared to other songs on their respective albums, but I'm pretty sure people have mentioned this before...

This bothers me so much ugh. I can't even listen to The Fame without being uncomfortable on how low some songs are

Perfect Illusion is definitely quieter except for the chorus'

I didn't used to like Scheiße because the mix of the drums feels weak/quieter than they should and her prechorus talking is way louder than her chorus singing. Bad Romance sounds perfect to me though

i noticed this with the way a lot of born this way’s songs are mixed. if i have my library on shuffle and a born this way song comes up, i need to turn it up way louder 👿 in the car especially. not necessarily a terrible thing, just kind of odd that her catalog is mixed inconsistently

heavy metal lover for example is so so quiet. even on full volume on headphones it doesn’t feel loud enough

I can kinda agree with HML but I believe that highly depends on where and how you listen to them. I got headphones because I like the bass sound on it

its likely the file type. if you have apple music, your files are m4a, though most people have mp3 (which is lossy, so some higher dB are cut off which can make the volume sound weird).

Not trying to advocate for piracy but we all know how the internet is, so I'd suggest finding your music in flac or wav files which both are lossless quality and wont have issues like this, or rip the audio from CDs.

digital music is crap sometimes for stuff like this, especially with songs that are rock or that have a ton of instruments going on. for most pop music, an average listener can't tell the difference, but i definitely have seen this sort of issue with mp3 or m4a files

I haven’t noticed that

But The Fame has really quiet volume

Really? It's the opposite for me! It's like, WAYYYY louder than the rest of my music library. Always have to turn it down when it comes on shuffle. Always.
