Bebe 17,289
12 hours ago, Lord Temptation said: If it weren’t for the Greens KILLING the Labor Party’s carbon emissions trading scheme in 2009 (in collusion with the Liberal Party) Australia would be the world leaders today in climate change renewal. No, they’re green-eyed evil. According to Treasury modelling, under the CPRS there would have been no reduction in emissions for 25 years. It gave billions in handouts to coal companies and big polluters, while it locked in emissions targets that failed the science. It would not have led to any change in behaviour by big polluters, while any future attempt to strengthen the scheme would have resulted in billion dollar compensation payouts to big polluters. It gave a false impression it was going to actually do something – in fact, Kevin Rudd’s own climate change advisor warned it could be better to go back to the drawing board. Just months later, the Greens worked with a more collaborative Gillard Labor government and Independent MPs to introduce world-leading climate legislation. This Greens-led package included a price on carbon that worked to reduce emissions, the establishment of the Clean Energy Finance Corporation and the Australian Renewable Energy Agency. It drove down pollution and has driven over $20 billion into over 600 energy projects around the country. And what happened? Pollution went down when the carbon price was in force. This was one of the few precious times in our history where emissions actually reduced -- and, in spite of conservative fear-mongering, the sky didn’t fall in. It’s still regarded as an example of world-leading emissions reduction legislation, and remains the basis of Greens carbon reduction policy today. Then the liberal party came into power and tore it down..... As for your ludicrous backburning claim: https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2019/nov/12/is-there-really-a-green-conspiracy-to-stop-bushfire-hazard-reduction Stop listening to Barnaby Joyce and conspiratorial Facebook posts - the Greens have never been in power and unlike the two major parties they don't take corporate money. Let's not get distracted - when placing blame and criticising leadership let's look towards those in power and their corporate interests not a small minority party. So you’re excusing arsonists, 200 of which have already been arrested? YOU have blood on your hands. YOU killed 500 million native animals by detracting from the specific cause (the BLOODY ARSONISTS whom you DON’T want to talk about - wonder why???) and focusing on Australian coal factories that produce 0.03% of global carbon. Let's not get distracted - when placing blame and criticising leadership let's look towards those in power and their corporate interests not a small minority party. I was a lifelong Labor supporter until 2010- when a bizarre and paradoxical alliance between Far Left (Greens) and the Far Right (Liberals) , destroyed any opportunity of Australia being the world leaders in climate change renewal. Never mind the fine details of the plan, it was a plan that would have served as a global benchmark. It was true leadership. I’m not against the Greens because they are “left-wing inner city lunatics”. They are hypocrites who will sleep with anyone just to disrupt the status quo. They don’t believe in anything except “attack the strong”. They are perpetual kids who have this fictional hate for rich old, white men, when really it is envy and probably, let’s face it, subconscious desire. In 2009, Australian voters had given Kevin Rudd a mandate to enact historic change. We voted for change with Kevin ‘07! The Greens and Liberals stabbed Australia in the back. Then in 2010 the Labor party kicked Rudd out and ushered in a dysfunctional decade that saw 5 Prime Ministers!!! Not to mention the medieval Sydney lockout laws. It all started with an unholy alliance between Far Left and Right. Who would have thought, sleeping with the enemy??? I was at uni around the time 2009-2010 and what happened then has completely made me lose faith in all parties, so no I don’t give a rats about Barnaby or the Coalition. They’re ALL bad. All i care about now is who is a bigger danger. Right now, the Greens are winning.

All i care about now is who is a bigger danger. Right now, the Greens are winning. You just ignored what I wrote... Nevermind the finer details that experts and Rudd's own Climate change advisor noted the plan would do nothing to cut emissions? Never mind that the Greens (when rejecting the plan based on the fact it was nothing more than a facade) worked to introduce alternative legislation that passed - actually significantly reduced emissions and is used as a model around the world? It's ridiculous. You can't call the Greens hipocritical for rejecting a bill that did nothing to reduce emissions and then months later spearheading and helping to pass an alternative that is widely regarded by experts as the most effective policy Australia has ever enacted to reduce emissions and curb climate change. The plan would NOT have passed the global benchmark period. The legislation passed by the Gillard government and then scrapped by the liberal party would have... We can see how successful it was from the disappointingly short period it was actually enacted. The Greens and the Liberal party are not, and never have been, in an alliance. They had totally different motivations for rejecting Rudds plan. The Liberal party wanted to rejecting any bill regarding climate change and The Greens knew Labor needed Green support to pass any climate legislation and therefore used what little political capital they had to create and pass a better alternative. You can explain how The Greens are winning despite never holding government or how they are a danger.

Sure animals deserve everything but this was due to the heat I would assume and we cant control what happens in nature. Animals never had a peaceful life to begin with. With or without us. Helxig 45,444
II can't believe this is barely getting any notice. Seeing the people stranded on the beaches for survival and all the red photos terrifies me. Seeing the burnt and injured koalas, and knowing how many animals burned to death, makes me want to cry. Seeing everything in New Zealand covered in a yellow haze from the smoke, from this far away, is a constant reminder. This sh.it it just insane. Idk what we can do to fix these problems but we have to make changes. Gov Hooka 8,008
8 hours ago, Debithius said: Not confirmed, they are affected, not all are dead. Wrong. Nearly all sources are pointing to at least 500 million animals dead directly by the fires or indirectly through habitat loss and starvation. Think about the scope of these fires and the number of animals, including reptiles, birds, and insects, that live within a single acre. 500 million dead is an underestimate in that sense
