Mena Massoud offered zero roles since Aladdin

Despite Aladdin crossing the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office, becoming the biggest hit of Will Smith‘s career, Massoud said no new opportunities have come his way.

“I’m kind of tired of staying quiet about it,” he said. “I want people to know that it’s not always dandelions and roses when you’re doing something like Aladdin.

‘He must have made millions. He must be getting all these offers.’ It’s none of those things. I haven’t had a single audition since Aladdin came out.”

He later added: “The big truth is I haven’t really seen a big anything from [Aladdin].”

Massoud said that when he tells others about the lack of casting interest after his major Hollywood breakout, they don’t believe him.

The actor said his Middle Eastern background often makes him the “wild card” in a casting call with mostly white candidates — and it often leads to roles limited to characters like terrorists, which he has no interest in portraying in his work moving forward.

there should be a new Prince of Persia remake, and put him as the lead... and please make a better script/narrative for that reboot.

I'm not surprised. In the grand scheme of things, there are very few Middle Eastern/South Asian/Brown people in Hollywood. And when they do get roles, it's rarely for anything other than a terrorist. It's a fact.

He was pretty bland in Aladdin, so perhaps the performance just didn't capture anyone's attention? Here's hoping that another filmmaker can give him more to do.

So eventually he'll just have to wait for producers to think of movies/remakes involving characters of certain features just to get back to work. That's sad and disgusting but nothing surprising from Hollywood.

Hollywood has been white washing the middle east for many years, I mean for them Moses is white and the Egyptian gods has a British accent :laughga:

The actors either play a terrorist or a corpse of a terrorist.

Sometimes they let them play a taxi driver from NYC..

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

Gurl nothing is guaranteed in Hollywood. There are thousands of actors ready to take your place. It’s all connections these days. Instead of complaining, how about get a new job? Even legendary award-winning actors/actresses struggle to find work. It’s never been a stable job, henny.

As if being pretty bland ever stops white actors of getting new jobs lol

This is sad. I'm glad that he is speaking up about it. I don't think he was that good in Aladdin, but if white actors can prove themselves better in more films then why shouldn't he?
