What is the real impact of population decline to an economy? Sure their GDP will go down, but does that mean that people will be suffering? I honestly can’t imagine a country like Japan ever becoming a third world country just because of pop decline

This is definitely good news for my country's fellow citizens from India who love to migrate to literally any country on earth with a higher GDP or HDI than India... these countries better start welcoming immigrants in huge numbers or their economy is gonna rot.

@Economy is the the best suited member to answer this and all global economy and politics questions on this cult site but I can instantly think that their labor cost will significantly go higher due to scarcity. or they will have to either import or outsorce it and it makes the economy more volatile. thus creating some sort of inflation too. but this is me guessing most of these countries with the exception of Japan aren’t global commerce players and have more closed markets. but I honestly don’t know if I’m right or wrong. it’s just a random guess. lol

It'll mean budget changes/borrowing, higher taxes, potentially desperate pushes for immigration from poorer countries. This is to pay for the ageing population and their social care and needs, and also to pay for the education of children who they hope will balance out the age gap. They won't get demoted to a 3rd world country though. 

Countries in the EU will benefit from freedom of movement, making immigration more likely as people return to or settle in Bulgaria, Lithuania etc.

Japan will have a harsher ageing crisis, so expect to see government increasing taxes or borrowing. Nations like Japan have been anti-immigration for centuries, so it will be a major change in the country. Japan will lose its status as a world economic power due not keeping up with GDPs from other growing nations, but it'll remain a stable economic power in Asia. 

It's going to be rough for young and middle-aged adults who will have to support the older and younger populations.
