This child was probably deprived of rice, potato, bread or any other diet staple. I supplement omega 3 from algae oil pills and get b12 with a spray and vitamind D3 through drops. As for people here claiming Vegan diet is sIcK and KiLLinG, I wish you a lovely day in your bubble. My ex called himself a vegetarian but all he ate was pasta, potato chips, and the like OT: kids need rounded diets and doctors, what the hell were they thinking? PartySick 172,416
Also, we have this debate weekly. Let's just all agree that animal cruelty is bad and everyone's bodies are different Some people thrive on vegan diets, others do much better with meat. Just make sure you get your meat from a friendly local source Whimsical bitch

Never underweight, always have everything normal in my blood work. Being vegan and vegetarian are two extremely different things. As a vegetarian you still partake in animal protein one way or another, which is essential to the development of a child's body and its physical and mental capabilities. A strictly vegan diet can be deadly for children and are never, ever recommended by healthcare professionals.

All the nutrients that exist in animals also exist in vegetation of one type or another (animal products could not contain it in the first place without ingesting it and metabolizing it) However what I will say is that to be a healthy vegan takes some work, effort and knowledge. It's easier to be undernourished if your food options are reduced and you do need to know what ur doing and what stuff u must include to make sure ur getting everything Also like @March34th said, u really need that variety. If you don't eat grains that's an issue. Meat and milk for example are high in B vitamins... But so are grains and bread for example (some of that is due to fortification but it's there regardless). If u only eat fruits and vegetables, u may not get enough B vitamins Protein is high in stuff like legumes, nuts and mushrooms... There's also always the option of tofu or vegan protein powders. But u need to make sure u include at least a few things like this. If not a vegan could easily have insufficient protein. You CAN be healthy being a vegan but u need to understand what foods have what so that you get all across the board nutrition. If you go into it without proper knowledge I think it's potentially dangerous Ive met healthy looking vegans but also very scrawny and sickly looking ones too. To me that's proof some people aren't doing veganism correctly or in a safe way The thing is, the human body doesn't create the enzymes to break down plant matter. Therefore, very little of the nutrients found in fruit and veg cannot be absobed by the body. If you eat animal products, your body can actually digest the nutrients from it. Liver and Carrots both have Vitamin A in high quantities... but someone who just eats the carrots will have less vitamin a than the person who eats the liver. Mushrooms are not a vegetable, nor a fruit Tofu is dangerous for the environment ro produce, same with soy. The best way to make sure you are actually getting a good high quality meal with all the nutrients in it that you can actually use is to eat meat. There are vegans and non-vegans who are in incredible physical shape. Veganism itself is not an indicator of someone's unhealthiness. A healthy vegan diet is no different then a healthy non-vegan diet, in that it requires a certain level of research and mindfulness. I know mushrooms aren't a fruit or vegetable but it's still vegan regardless so I'm not sure why bring that up As for tofu agreed. But it depends why someone is vegan. If it has nothing to do with environment as is purely not to kill animals then it's still an option And we are able to extract nutrients from fruits and vegetables. That's why ppl who don't eat enough of it miss valuable nutrients. Like Vitamin K. Some studies suggest we only absorb as little as 10% of what's in leafy greens like lettace or kale but it's still the best source Of course fruits and vegetables are not going to give u all the nutrients u need. But no one is saying eating only fruits and vegetables is a good idea If u also eat legumes, nuts, grains and one of my personal favs mushrooms... U get a pretty across the board spectrum of nutrients It's hard tho if u don't plan it REALLY well. Personally I would never do it... In fact because I have IBS inflammatory problems with a lot of plants and grains, veganism would be completely unrealistic for me because meat it actually the one food group that bothers me nothing at all But I'm saying if someone really wants to do it. It's not entirely impossible I would still never recommend anyone do it to their kids tho. Adults may be able to live on well planned vegan diets but fast growing kids I'd worry. Especially infants and toddlers whose digestive system isn't fully developed and a lot of nutrients are not properly digested. They would miss even more from plants than we adults do

The stereotype that vegans are mostly underweight and anemic is totally eradicated if you actually attend a vegan event. Go to a vegan food festival, or a vegan expo, and you will not see a bunch of ultra-skinny people. You will see the same overweight/underweight/healthyweight distribution as there is in the general population.

All you say is "no you're wrong" without backing it up. Sometimes "common sense ideas" turn out to be wrong. All evidence suggests meat was a treat, not the staple. Honestly I think it also depends where I lived too... Some parts of earth especially in cold climates near North available vegetation was low and ppl relied a lot in hunting But meat was also "kings food" or "rich man's food" in many medical cultures I think it depends on the region and what was most available In rural Portugal when my grandparents were children (before grocery stores because common place in rural areas and ppl relied on farming) they told me they lived mostly off of potatoes, kale (grows in Portugal like weeds), and the fruit from the trees. Eggs were also eaten a lot as most ppl had chickens But meat was always an occasion. My grandma said when she was a girl anytime someone in the village would kill a cow or a pig meat was always shared or sometimes a party would be made and meat was on average eaten only like twice a week with old chickens that no longer laid eggs being the most common eaten meat. For them meat was a rare treat. Although for them eggs were common
