Not that i agree with his suggestion to close it for multiple reason but the majority of Mcdonalds positions are low skill level entry jobs... if they closed other chains would take customers from them and expand and new jobs would be created in other chains of them same type that are easy to qualify for
xoxo Craig 55,649
Just now, Benji said: Cheap takeaway food isn’t the enemy, it’s a lack of education about food and/or issues with income that make it the only viable option for some people. Well yes, but at the same time, modern day 2019 person SHOULD be more educated on food - there is tonnes of information out there in our school, at our doctors and even online. The very existence of fast food chains like McDonald's are the reason why we have problems... literally. Before anything was Americanised, everyone was a good sustainable weight, and diet related health issues were very low. Now they are everywhere, and obesity is a huge issue along with type 2 diabetes and other diet related diseases. They aim their market at the poor + impoverished people who struggle financially, and to ordinary working class people who are on the go often to make money because its "time convenient". They add things to their food that make it more addictive so you come back for more, their beef burgers have anything but beef, the chicken nuggets have all the bits of the chicken which nobody wants, it never fills you up so you always get more and more to "feel full". They should make healthier foods cheaper, and unhealthier foods much more expensive. To see the full impact on what chains like McDonald's have done, look no further than Asian countries like China or Japan. They had their first McDonald's open about 20 years ago... and now, obesity is rising and people are becoming less healthy. If you were to close all these chains, then you have removed the problem. People can't get their 99p burger from the savers menu if there isn't a restaurant to provide it. Education is not enough, there needs to be action. Its like a drug; how do you expect an addict to recover if you supply them with drugs, even though you tell them all that there is to know about drugs and how they can effect you? Well... education and experience to develop everyone to their full potential. I can only speak for what I know here, and that is most workers are either these groups of people; left school with little to no grades, a part time job to help with University living costs, or they are really poor and will take anything. Its always seen as a "temporary thing". Nobody grows up saying "I want to work in McDonald's", and its about time we helped those struggling with education rather than pushing them to one side and ignorning their dreams/ambitions. But i dont think it should be banned like, in moderation as a rare treat its fine. I love mcdonalds and im at a healthy weight now. I learned to eat stuff in moderation even tho junk food is my worst addiction tbh what we could maybe do is discourage it by putting a special tax on fast food and using the money to help subsidize basic healthy fresh fruits and vegetables that would take away the whole cheap aspect to it of ppl going to it simply because of accessibility

You need to realize that people sometimes have to work in McDonalds because they literally have no choice. They sometimes HAVE to drop out of school and go to work there. Taking away a huge franchise like that that provides jobs isn't the answer just because you think it's unhealthy. There are people's lives at stake. I'm sorry but your health is your responsibility. If it wasn't McDonalds another chain would be doing it. Businesses respond to demand and the demand for their food is there that's why McDonalds has been able to grow so big. 5 hours ago, xoxo Craig said: They aim their market at the poor + impoverished people who struggle financially, and to ordinary working class people who are on the go often to make money because its "time convenient". What they do to their foods is literally no different to what other businesses even social media companies do to make sure customers stay. Things on Instagram are curated to make sure what you see, you like and that makes you stay on the website. If we regulate McDonalds because it's unhealthy, what else should we regulate? Internet usage? Phone screen time? TV watching time? Time out in the sun? Videogaming time?
