Well it's a bit different if she was a lawyer or cashier or electrician, you can go to work and focus on your tasks and sort of block out your pain for a while. When you're writing and creating music you emotions are your work. You can't really block them out without impacting your creativity. It makes complete sense that if she started writing an album in a happy place, and now she's very sad, that she might need to take a little break to reset and re-evaluate. The dog was an inspiration for the music she was making and now she lost that inspiration she had. She was in a specific mindset when she was making her art and now she is in a completely different one. So this loss will change the course of the album because it completely changed the artistic mindset she was in for this record. Now she needs to get back on track and possibly even rethink what she was doing for this album. We don’t know what this album’s concept was nor how does Lorde work when creating music, therefore it’s not our place to judge how the loss of her dog could affect her artistic process. She’s not just peacing out because she’s sad, but because one of her sources of inspiration is gone and now she needs to reconsider what she’s already done because she’s feeling differently than before. So stop invalidating her feelings and her decisions. She’s not just being an immature girl, she’s acting like a human with feelings, and more than that, an ARTIST with feelings. And an artist’s work can be greatly affected by losses in their personal lives. Also, yes she had this dog for only one year. But she loved that dog and clearly it meant a lot to her. And that between 2 Lorde albums, 5 years of my life will have gone away (again, this is not against her, I'm not even that much of a Lorde fan, this could apply to anyone and I totally understand her reasons) We're just so used to get 5+ albums with huge cultural impact a year and with Lorde it's like time passes so slowly, yet when you look back you see time flew Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

She's been there to comfort me in horrible times. She also feels like one of the last links to my sister who I miss so much. I think that's partially why I'm like, "....she only had the dog for TWO years,." Though, maybe there's more too it. She didn't even really say she's delaying the album though, she's just letting us know that it may take longer to produce since a lot of her inspiration was being supported by the dog. So she's really just saying it'll probably take her more time than if the dog was still around, which is fair. Anyways we waited ages for Melodrama and it was absolutely worth it so I wasn't expecting another album til 2021 anyways; and I don't want her to rush this. Thank you. People are being so dramatic saying she "delayed over her dog dying" when that's not what she said. Naturally, when something like this happens it prolongs the process and makes it harder to stay in the same flow, so it will just likely take longer.
