Miley is much more of an artist and too little singer chasing the commercial charts. Much more experimental and not following the trends. While Selena makes songs that use the sound of it's time - Miley bets on variety and different genres - pop, country, experimental, rap. Still, the current Selena's song hype can't compare to Miley's - she literally pushed the barriers and scandalized everyone. Miley pushed nothing but controversy for being too sexual; she's not a trend setter but a trend hopper at best, she made hip-hop music when it was cool and bashed it when she moved to country in 2017, when it was common to fuse country elements into pop music that Gaga, Kesha and JT did at the time as well. Not to mention she moved back to hip-hop shamelessly when it was cool again. In her MTV documentary she made it very clear how much she cares about the charts and numbers, in fact she said 'if I'm not #1 on the chart it doesn't matter where else I land' (paraphrasing). So you need to stop painting her to be Grimes 2.0.
