Most vegans I've met have been militant and judging my this thread, it's evident.

But being a militant doesn't mean you're "hassling people" as you were saying.

If vegans didn't talk to people with such disrespect, then this issue would not exist.

You're talking about this tread? Cause I don't see non-vegans being talked with "such disrespect" here except if merely debating it is already disrespectful. Even if you meant in general, I don't know how you can say that "vegans talk to people with such disrespect" when the huge majority of the ones I met were not agressive at all...

I noticed non-vegans often end up pissed off at the vegans when they discuss veganism cause these discussions make them face the fact they do something bad for the environment, for the animals and sometimes even for their health.

Some own their choice so they stay cool and some get angry cause they feel attacked hearing the impact of big meat consumption etc, even when it was just a calm debate without any name-calling or anything nasty.

I understand it's a movement and the intention is to stop meat consumption, but I remember that PETA advert calling meat eaters 'weak ass mother****ers'. Like seriously? That's how you're going to get people to stop eating meat? People have eaten meat from the very start so you're calling billions of people who have lived on the earth 'twats'? Sounds about right.

PETA always was an organization using shock values to get attention so I'm not surprised by this technique I don't like either.

That being said they don't represent vegans overall just like some straights-blaming LGBT activist group doing provocation wouldn't represent you if you're gay lol. You can't use chosen examples to generalize a very large group of millions of folks around the world.

You can't abuse other people and then say 'iTs MaKiNg Me AnGrY'. If you come for someone, they will come for you

Some times ago, after being generally ignored for a while, vegans were just supposed to be these annoying people who looked sick, were not very masculine when they were male etc.  It was poorly working so the trend switched to  "vegans are so agressive omg they're crazy".

It went from dismiss them as laughable losers to presenting them as lunatics radicals... To me it mainly seems like techniques, conscious or unconscious, to avoid talking about the substance and stay on  form with this blaming game, wide generalizations etc.

It's okay to not want to talk about it or to do so and own the choice you make but trying to shut down the other side with misrepresentations is a low blow even if I think many don't do it on purpose.

India you're doing amazing sweetie:heart:

I mean it makes sense to reduce animal products, I don't know why the non-veg people are being so defensive

But meat is often the most expensive thing when you buy food so cutting meat is often budget-friendly. :)

If some places boost the prices for veg options I wish vegans will stop going there until they have fair prices for vegan meals. :/

When I first heard about veganism I was quite defensive as well since it basically was telling me my consumption had huge impact on environment, my own health etc and that for years...

Imo some don't care and own their choice so they stay cool but some feel guilty so they get defensive.

It's very dishonest of them cause they surely spent less on these than on non-vegan options...

I hope one restaurant around your place will break this trend so all vegans can go there and scr*w the others. ;)

Well facts and science don't lie so.

I could never go vegetarian or vegan. I love meat and dairy just too much.

That said, props to those who are and who are able to make the change both temporarily and permanently.

According to a large study of American dietary habits, 84 percent of vegetarians and vegans eventually go back to eating meat. The study was funded by advocacy group the Humane Research Council, which partnered with Harris Interactive to survey the meat-eating habits of 11,399 adults ages 17 and older.

A few of the more interesting findings:

2 percent of American adults are current vegetarians or vegans, 10 percent are former vegetarians/vegans, and 88 percent have never been vegetarian or vegan.

More than half of the ex-vegetarians/vegans gave up on their veggie ways within their first year; a third went back to meat within three months.

The average age that people said they first decided to give up meat was 34.

About a third of ex-vegetarians and vegans said they were living with a non-vegetarian/vegan significant other when they started eating meat again.

Also, current vegetarians and vegans were more likely to name multiple reasons for avoiding meat and/or animal products, whereas many of the exes only reported one motivational factor, usually health.
