Elton John's thoughts on "The Lion King" remake

"The new version of The Lion King was a huge disappointment to me, because I believe they messed the music up. Music was so much a part of the original and the music in the current film didn’t have the same impact. The magic and joy were lost. The soundtrack hasn’t had nearly the same impact in the charts that it had 25 years ago, when it was the bestselling album of the year. The new soundtrack fell out of the charts so quickly, despite the massive box-office success. I wish I’d been invited to the party more, but the creative vision for the film and its music was different this time around and I wasn’t really welcomed or treated with the same level of respect. That makes me extremely sad. I’m so happy that the right spirit for the music lives on with the Lion King stage musical."

He's so petty for that word choice.... just kidding! :ladyhaha:

I loved the movie but I guess it's hard to portray emotions in real-life-looking animals

He worked on the soundtrack for this film. The only song he didn't work on was Spirit. He’s only saying this cause it underperformed on the charts. Had it done huge numbers, he’d be singing a completely different tune.

a joke

a literal joke.

Its sounds more like he was dissapointed with how the music itself was incorporated into the film, than how the music actually was.

Well he definitely did work on the soundtrack a bit, due to the new song he wrote being featured on there. I can’t tell if he’s trying to come for Beyoncé’s LK album OR some relationships at Disney went a little sour and he wasn’t included in the final production stages of the songs.

Essentially they just re-recorded the songs he wrote for the original film so it’s possible he may not have been that involved at all.

He is so right. But it's not just The Lion King, it's all of these Disney remakes. They all miss that special something that everyone associates with Disney. It's like the films and the music don't hit you in the feels anymore in the way that the animations do. I actually watched The Lion King yesterday after months of anticipation and it made me feel nothing. :( I thought the animals were adorable and I liked the cinematography but the impact just wasn't there. I was disappointed that the Circle of Life didn't have that same magic as the first one.
