Majority of House now backs impeachment proceedings

Good. I want him to be impeached. I want that asterisk next to his name for the rest of recorded history. If America has to live with the stain of his presidency for all time, so too should he have to live with the stain of impeachment for all time.

But to be clear, we're not at impeachment yet - a majority backs opening an impeachment inquiry, which gives Congress greater power to enforce subpoenas and do other fact-finding. Hopefully impeachment will come soon after, and then we can move on.

How will this effect the race if he does get impeached?

If he's impeached, he can run again.

If he's impeached and removed from office by the Senate (never happened before), he most likely can't run again.

Really such a waste of time and for the wrong reasons. The media is going to go crazy over this. It’s going to overshadow the Democratic primary & could cause us to nominate a losing candidate and end up with 4 more years of either DJT or Pence.

If they were going to try impeachment, it should have already happened. && if we don’t remove him from office, it’s going to ignite the Republican base and you can bet your ass that the dem nominee has to have 100X the excitement around them as Clinton did. The only person in that field capable of this is Bernie.

Exactly, I don’t care how late it may come, just as long as he goes in history as an impeached president

He legally can still run, the Republican establishment would just highly criticize it and he’d most likely be opposed by a candidate like Mitt Romney or Nikki Haley

Honestly, I feel like he could win the primary under those circumstances

I agree with all the various comments above.  From him still being able to run (barf), to him going down as one of the impeached presidents in our history (yay but because it sucks he even gets his name in history...something I still can't stomach and it deserves to be tarnished), and to the fact that the Dems should be focused on progressive non-neoliberal candidates...or to even a brief or potential President Pence....I know there's just a ton of possibilities grapple with -- and they are all distracting.  I just hope Trump, his family and everyone that has supported him gets their karma at some point. :fthis:

The most disturbing thing bout this whole dumpster fire of an administration is that I do not know how to tell or convince his supporters or other politicians to give a sh!t about their fellow human beings and the rather than shutting them out, building a wall, or ruining their socioeconomic opportunities with unrestrained capitalism, and crap healthcare and so on.

I feel like in that scenario, the RNC would vote for a convention primary and then overload it with establishment delegates so he stands no chance. Might even ban him from the primary tbh.

Preferable option is, House impeaches. Trump feels the heat and resigns. Pence serves the remaining months and doesn’t run for re election bc he’s old and a loser. GOP puts up a hail mary restore the party candidate like Marco Rubio, Ben Sasse, Jeb Bush, Rand Paul, Paul Ryan, but still looks so bad and disarrayed, that the Democrat wins in a landslide. If Trump is impeached/resigns/removed, U honestly would predict Biden to bow out and possibly Bernie to back Liz. I could see a late surge for mid tier candidates like Booker, Beto, Amy, Tulsi, Castro, Steyer, Yang etc surging to the front as well as Harris and Buttigieg taking a lot of spotlight. The party would focus away from “who can beat Trump” or “who’s ideology is best” to more “who do we like the most”, in which I think identity politics and charisma would take charge, surging Harris, Beto, Buttigieg and Booker the most.

Dems impeach in the House. Nothing happens in the Senate. Basically what will happen.

We can only hope that this doesn't somehow make more people feel bad for Trump and vote for him.

I honestly don't know what will happen, but trying to keep an open-end with all the differing views because I can see them all working.

Hopefully more damning evidence comes forward with the inquiry.
