Although Shania is kinda a different story imo.  I think she'd still be selling like she did in 2002, but she made the mistake of taking a 15 year hiatus, and even worse, returned with a sound and image that really wasn't at all reminiscent of the Shania everyone fell in love with.

 

That lead single's theme didn't help either...

If she had released this song right before marrying Frédéric the lyrics would've made sense and the public would've ate it up.  But to release it 9 years AFTER your separation... the GP was like, "Why are you still talking about this like it's fresh, when clearly you and Mutt moved on YEARS ago?"

I realise that her hiatus was the main reason for it but let's face it, she was going to be a slow spiral downwards anyway, music was starting to move on post-2002 and she wouldn't have coped in the era of hip hop ruling the charts. Point is, hiatus or not, she had a good few years and then disappeared and the world moved on. I thought her lead single was about her lyme disease diagnosis? But I'd never heard of her love life issues. It was essentially like she took revenge on her cheating husband and lover by marrying the lover's ex? And she married him within mere months of divorce from the last guy! This is like something out a soap opera! Don't know how this wasn't splashed all over the tabloids, I guess because she wasn't active in music at the time. You're right, this could've inspired so much music and the public could've experienced it in real time. I still don't know why she took the break the did. I remember rumours that she was going to release an album as far back as 2011. Maybe she did write stuff about the break up but then scrapped it? This was long before the days of Ariana writing an album about her ex mere months after the break up, it was a different time, what can I say? I remember when Madonna divorced Guy Ritchie in 2008 and didn't address it in music until her 2012 album. It was weird to hear that back then so I can't imagine what it's like to hear about a break up from nearly 9 years ago. Times sure have changed.

Lady Katy needs to get out of her contract and build her *own* record label, or go independent.  

I hate thinking that the idea of a new album by her is an "if," not a "when."

Actually at some point she lost her voice completely due to lyme disease. Literally couldn't speak.  Yes it was a very turbulent time all around.

I am sorry but this statement makes her look like she only cares for money and sales and not for music... But I kinda always thought that about her... I mean look at what she is doing now... She is releasing single after single until one of them becomes hit... Which will not happen because she is not promoting any of them... nro is an amazing song but it couldn't have become a hit without any promo

Once Gaga announces her album release date, Katy will announce her album releasing exactly 5 days earlier
