Just because she's 16 years old doesn't mean that she's overreacting or emotional. She's actually doing something and using her voice to make a change.

I'm also very confused about your statement "Climate change CAN be a problem". Can? You know there's a reason why they're starting to look for other planets and see if Mars can be a habitable one for us & only rich people will be able to go there, while you'll stay on this Earth, where climate change WILL be a problem, and you'll breathe so much poisonous air you'll black out and die. Are you blind or something? It's already starting. With climate change it means that the weather gets more intense. Winter will be colder, summer will be hotter, have you felt that? Because I did, it went up to 40 degrees in my city, with floodings, intense wind. Intense tornados, and it'll only get more and more intense. Some birds are on the verge of extinction, bees too. Without bees by the way there will be no more life, everything will be disturbed because bees do a lot for the ecosystem and for you, everyday they work for your entitled ass so that you get fruits, vegetables, from apples to flowers. And all we do is poison our own food with pesticides. Did you know that everything you eat is poisonous? It has glyphosate in it which causes cancer in high doses. But it's inevitable, they say most of us have glyphosate in our body, but what will happen when we keep eating those food and glyphosate gets higher and higher? Very cute of you to think this is just an overexaggeration. It's people like you who are part of the problem and never the solution.

A little bit off topic but i have to give my two cents here

looking to see if mars is habitable is literally the stupidest idea ever

Earth has the right gravity for our species, atmospheric pressure, length of days for our system and natural biological clocks etc etc etc

a severely damaged earth would still be easier to survive in or to terraform back to health than a planet that has its specifications all wrong and we had to adapt everything from scratch

to me this idea of running away to another planet because of a damaged earth never made any sense to me (unless they found a planet so simmilar that it was virtually a copy)

if humanity could come up with the technology to survive in or terraform a planet with the wrong gravity, atmosphere, climate etc etc etc...

then they would be capable of surviving or fixing earth that already has all the right specifications for our biology

a severely damaged earth is still more compatible with our biology than friggen mars :rip:

Trump is bullying her on Twitter.

Fox News called her mentally ill.

She really triggered these fools.

What irks me is people with no background in science saying climate change is a hoax, etc. Like please stop. Stay in your lane. Either educate yourself on the science or actually have data to back up your opposing claim.

The ignorance displayed by people on this topic is downright disturbing.

Of course I would wake up to work with of a bunch of triggered replies 🤣.

No, I don’t expect a 16 year old to have all the answers. But I do expect her to provide possible ways to combat climate change and showcase that she actually knows what she’s talking about. Because to me it came across as a kid acting overly emotional and entitled because she perceived HER life as “ruined”. That’s laughable. How many people lose their families, are raped, are homeless, amongst other atrocities, but her life is ruined over a changing climate that isn’t even at its worst and life is very much still normal for the rest of us?

Additionally, that fact that many of you either ignore or disregard China altogether is the problem. How does one get up and speak for climate change, yet doesn’t address the number one polluter in the world? Yes, she was addressing the UN. However, again, what good does a tantrum do if you’re not citing specific sources and talking factually about what is causing this and who is excessively contributing to it.

I don’t see how any of my points aren’t valid. And it’s clear that many of you don’t care for other’s opinions. You just want to be surrounded by your own virtue signaling, utopian world opinions.

"I don’t see how any of my points aren’t valid" I'm so tired of those kind of egoists statements.

Your opinions are just a sum of bad-faith, laziness, and privilege based on assumptions. You have to make some research before writing non-sense. We were patients enough to provide actual answers you clearly didn't even look up.

Once again, China didn't ratify the last climate changes agreements. For this very reason, China was absent of this meeting. And that's why Greta was aiming at signatories countries with representatives in the audience, who didn't respect their goals. Yes China is the biggest polluter (it's the factory of the entire planet), but every countries have to make efforts. And it's easy to target pollution levels from the countries of the global South while the global North shamelessly exploit them.

This is the real world. The desire to change it, is no utopia ffs.

Please, watch this video

https://youtu.be/H2QxFM9y0tY

This is such a huge issue that the best way of reacting to it - at least in my opinion - is to concentrate on choices I can make and actions I can participate.

Why talk about China when nearly the only thing I can do is not to buy "made in China" stuff? China is on our leaders/politicians plate.

And for US - When beathing has become dangerous?

"Millions more Americans breathing dirty air as planet warms, study finds"

Forty-three percent of Americans live in places where they’re breathing unsafe air, according to American Lung Association

by Emily Holden, The Guardian, Wed 24 Apr 2019

Rumi said it, and Jane Austen too.

Our extinction is kinda unavoidable, earth is not going to stay here forever.

Now back to topic, I'm a big fan of her, I hope all the young people would be this crazily activist, it's really mesmerizing to watch her, she's bringing a real issue and we need to learn and take it seriously, look how many people are dying from cancer for example, babies breath toxic air, it's unacceptable, the governments are not even banning cigarettes for good because it's one of the best income to the country, so they wouldn't put a finger to fight global warming.

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

I agree with you. Thank you for responding with common sense and a place of understanding. Many of the kids on here don’t even try to read other’s opinions and understand it, before responding with emotional nonsense.

What’s hilariously pathetic is that your consistent ignorant remarks on a multitude of topics and threads on this site show you to be the nonsensical “kid.” You said something so blatantly stupid and received a multitude of logical, factual responses and it seems, by your response, that you are the triggered one. You need to take a look in the mirror, sweety.

PRIVELLEDGED LIFE? So you think Greta stormed over there in a private jet? No hunny. She boated over there across the ocean in a environmentally friendly boat

Omg you really are sold to this lies they're telling you.

She travelled on a boat, it's true. But have you read how many flights have her collaborators took? Do you know how many luggages had to travel on airplanes?

That's the reason I wrote the post. Nobody actually knows anything about climate change, you just read what you wanna reas without going further into details. I'm NOT in any way saying climate change isn't a thing, it IS a problem but it's not the kind of problem Greta is telling us. Things are different, if people could just try and read different sources and researchs instead of focusing in what they wanna believe things would take a different turn.

Again, try and read different researchs. You'll find out many many things and we'll be able to have a civil comversation about climate change and what we should do, instead of replying to my post with entitled replies telling me I'm ignirant because I read more than you do.

She is not just a 16 year old. How dare you.
she is the leader of my generation, without her, there would be no one to stand up to the world leaders.
Shame on some of you who think this is an over exaggeration, same people who probably still use single use plastics.

I won't use single plastic and still i think it's and exxageration.

Why tf do you have to attack people who just do not agree with anything she says?

Do we live in a tyranny or am I able to express my opinion? Have I said I don't believe in climate change? No. I said I don't like this overexxaggeration of things and all the people who listens to Greta like if she's a nobel physic prize while there are people who study they're whole life and are tryna say REAL things instead of exxaggerated lies.

You people always have to think that if someone dissent he is immediatly stupid and ignorant because you don't have the guts and the intelligence needed to understand other's opinions and to deal with them in a honest and civil way.

Incredible speech.

So many adults are bullying her on Twitter. A pathetic set of people.

I can't wait to see those adults die of hunger when the ecosystems collapse and there isn't enough food... :crossed:

they will eat their words then :neyde:

Mister G

I’ll just sit back and watch everyone claw at each other until everyone calms down and can communicate a bit more reasonably. This 16 year old girl is going to go places, and what’s encouraging and inspiring is seeing someone her age taking action.

Show some respect at least. She has Aspergers and still has the courage to talk in front of the world. You don't even dare to tell your real name on the internet.  What she said is completely true, corporations don't give a flying **** about our envoirment and it's getting worse and worse , just because they want money, and they are taking the money and the envoirment from all of us.

I do respect her, where have I insulted her or even just slightly insinuated that I don't have respect for her?

To talk in front of the whole world requires skills I'd love to have, I absolutely admire her for that. She has the courage to travel the world, to take action in protests and to speak in front of so many people, lots of them being world leaders.

But her speeches are terribly fake, it's clear they're written by adults who knows what to say to make us think and reconsider our whole life.

I'm not in any way insulting her or saying anything against her. If you could just go back and read my comment again you'll find out I was just saying that she's just 16 yo and instead of acting out speeches written for her to make her become the idle of the world, she should just relax because no one is taking away her future or anything.

And yes I believe in global warming, it's actually not a matter of believing in it because it IS true, it IS  a thing. I don't believe in this exxaggeration because, if people would read more actual, real sources, they would know it is an overexxageration.

This comes across as severly uneducated.... there is actual evidence and a general consensus  that were in the midst of a mass extinction and there is no denying that. It's not an overexaggeration, all her statements thus far have been backed by credited and renowned scientists and researchers that have been in the field for decades.

Ignoring the best knowledge on subjects like climate change, abuse of resources, ecological cycles and feedback loops available to us is just plain stupid. And the last 3 years have shown that climate change and loss of our ecosystems are in full swing.  With heatwaves all over the world, dying reefs, loss of insect populations vital for crops and nature, loss of countless mammal, bird and fish species, loss of ecological habitats that are vital for carbon cycles and vital against desertification. I think a lot of people have their heads stuck up in their asses, not wanting to see the critical condition.

Refusing to see the issues, will make you even more unprepared for the consequences to our actions.

There are many scientists who actually denies that there is such a big problem.

The problem is there, global warming exists. But how much of it will actually affect us, how much it will go on, how much we will suffer from it, they're all theories. And there are theories who denies such a big impact on our world that would cause a "mass extinction".

I'm not denying the problem. I just like to read different sourced and to believe there is never just one truth. Global warming is REAL, no one ca  deny it.

But there are many scientists who have different theories about it than the ones you're quoting.

Facts are facts and reality is reality. Other than that, we can just wonder and theorize but a different theory based on the same facts can't be insulted and refered to as "unaducated" and "ignorant".

Either way, thank you for not attacking me for things I didn't say and for actually replying with a civil and intelligent reply.

Why don't you provide facts which back up your theory instead of acting like an educated being insulting me?

Have I said I don't believe in G W? Have I insulted Greta?

The problem is always the same my god, one cannot even slightly dissent because you people will immediatly bash one for not agreeing with the things they told you to believe.

And than you maybe also preach to love democracy! When I can't express my dissent that you attack me for not agreeing.
