It’s so funny how for the past 20 years,  scientists and climatologists have been warning us with concrete evidence of the effects of climate change, and how each year will make us 10 more steps closer to the Point of no return... yet here we are, more people denying it more than ever :rip:

Isnt it also funny that as far back as 50 years ago, acclaimed scientists were warning us about climate catastrophe. But here we are in 2019, surpassing every prediction ever made..

Here's a few example.

Harvard biologist George Wald estimated that “civilization will end within 15 or 30 years unless immediate action is taken against problems facing mankind.”

"Man must stop pollution and conserve his resources, not merely to enhance existence but to save the race from intolerable deterioration and possible extinction." — New York Times editorial

These are quotes from the 1970s.

If I am wrong with any of my examples, do let me know.

Meanwhile in Germany: Carbon dioxide gets taxed with 10€ per ton - 50€ is the scientifically approved absolute minimum :poot: . Traveling by train gets cheaper by 2020, while flights get more expensive. Also Power gets cheaper - by 0,25 cents ( cents, not euros :duck: ) per kilowatt hour.

In a nutshell: Germany's attempts are tragic and pathetic :vegas: .

Yes Germany made a terrible mistake.

One that other nations should learn from  and avoid.

*cough* green new deal :ohwell:

The First Earth Day
April 22, 1970
We only have one earth, so we need to take care of her. That's what Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin believed. He was disturbed that an issue as important as our environment was not addressed in politics or by the media, so he created the first Earth Day, on April 22, 1970. An estimated 20 million people nationwide attended festivities that day.

Do you know that they have been saying and predicting the same thing for decades? Things certainly didnt get any better, and yet 5 decades ago they were predicting that we wouldnt be alive today.

Now it's a fact that the climate certainly is changing, but perhaps maybe it is a result of a different situation all together? Perhaps since the north pole has been shifting and moving rapidly, and has been accelerating every year?

Who knows.

I heard of these people who studied the ancient method of understanding mothernature, few know this, but they're called scientists.

OT: Nothing will happens to us until it does. I will take my chances with countless researchs, studies, facts over "perhaps" and "maybe". Also, I don't recall any credible research from 5 decades ago saying we wouldn't survive today.

Of course they won't, they are part of the problem.

By the way if any people are offended because they are american, brazilian, or arab it's not about you it's about your country.

The US has a relationship with Saudi Arabia, everytime there's a new president they take a trip there receive a huge amount of money probably to stop innovation. Without oil, Saudi Arabia is nothing. US has to keep quiet.

I wonder what will happen since big leaders are driven by money and profit. If China, the US and Saudi Arabia don't change I'm not sure how the world can change. We need everyone to start making a choice, either you pick money or you pick Earth, that's it. But you can't have both anymore, not when you disrespect the planet with your money.

Also there are a million ways to keep making money without ruining nature, I wish somebody stopped the fake speeches and the fake events and just talk straight up to these leaders. Because we need to move on from polluting cars and polluting planes, we gotta start some transition, ANY transition. Right now we are stuck because of greedy old men making pacts with each other. I'm glad young people are demonstrating all over the world right now, because nobody will ever change unless we demand it all together

There were MANY climate predictions that have never come to pass. There were also many notable figures that had predicted the end of the world. At that time, they had used their scientific research and studies to make said predictions.

But, as you  so eloquently stated,

Nothing will happens to us until it does

And I agree, which is why I am so skeptical about this new wave of predictions.

Doesn't mean anything to be at a meeting. Proof: There was a report after the Paris climate accords, that showed that all the G20 nations didn't commit to the goals and no progress were made. Whether Trump wouldve attended or not, it wouldve made no difference but I'm sure Obama wouldve attended for symbolism which all leaders did quite frankly. We don't need meetings if they conclude to nothing.

That was in the 70s, it's almost 2020, things are changing and it's not a result of different things imo. Its just that the more we wait the more it'll get worse. We are procrastinating.

lol India cannot compete with other G20 nations because its the most populated country in the world (allegedly)....i am seeing a drastic change happened and happening within a year in people's day to day activity ( south india ).... i never said government accomplished their target completely ...but they gave a little hard push on people...glad they did.....good changes are welcomed whether it is small or big one .

response to your quote :   cannot relate :huntyga:
