JustinTrudeau 2,419
Remember, this is the election season in Canada (we're voting on Oct 21st). I don't know who leaked the photos/video (or how we got the photos), but if the person was so concerned about calling out Trudeau's actions to raise awareness about blackface, why not last year or the year before? Political smear. Plain and simple. Feel free to call it blackface (because it is) but it shouldn't be used as a political weapon. Recognizing racism should be about educating others, not attack them when the moment is "right" about their racist actions. It's disgusting the way we had to find out. He shouldn't have done that. He apologized, he acknowledged he did wrong, and now this is distracting people from the real issues in the elections (like how certain parties have problematic platforms and don't believe in climate change). https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/liberal-trudeau-brownface-election-2019-1.5289421 "I am wary of being definitive about this. The recent pictures I had not remembered," he said when pressed by reporters about the number of incidents. "I think the question is, 'How can you not remember that?' The fact is, I didn't understand how hurtful this is to people who live with discrimination every single day. I have always acknowledged I come from a place of privilege, but I now need to acknowledge that comes with a massive blind spot." On Wednesday evening, Trudeau recounted just two incidents of blackface. A third image of him in blackface surfaced in video form Thursday. Trudeau said he never spoke about the incidents before now because he was "embarrassed," adding that his past actions do not define the politician he has become since. "What I did ... hurt people who shouldn't have to face intolerance and discrimination because of their identity. This is something that I deeply, deeply regret," he said. "Darkening your face, regardless of the context of the circumstances, is always unacceptable because of the racist history of blackface. I should have understood that then, and I never should have done it." I fell down the stairs once as an actor.

FABian 852
The fact that it's this scandal that makes world news makes me sad. Justin Trudeau has been embroiled in a corruption scandal for the past year and nobody seems to be talking about it. But no let's talk about something that happened 2 decades ago, instead of talking about what has and is happening currently Dont know about yall, but corruption is WAY more scary to me than this, and deserve way more coverage. Akiki 3,900
And that's how you destroy a great politician. A simple mistake and your life is over. How many people died because he did brown face at a party? 0 How many got offended back then? 0 And yet! 20 years later...
ThisGuyTony 34,849
Had he not admitted or apologized, I wouldn't know it was him in that video or the photo from a few days ago. I still think it's ridiculous that this came out decades later.

luckyanderson 379
Does it really matter what he did so long as he takes accountability for it, realizes it isn't acceptable today and makes an effort to make ammends with those he's offended? People do make mistakes. Trudeau is not entitled to forgiveness unless he is willing to work for it, though I do believe.
