The gold elements in its design as well as its Japanese name are most likely linked to Son Goku, the Japanese interpretation of the character Sun Wukong. Sun Wukong is the main character in the Chinese epic Journey to the West and is a monkey with powerful abilities. It is also similar to the Vanara, a race of ape-like humanoids in the Hindu epic Ramayana, specifically Hanuman, who was granted immunity to fire. Hanuman is also believed to have influenced Sun Wukong. It is most likely based on Monkey Kung Fu. Infernape shares its category with Charmeleon, Charizard, Flareon, and Moltres. They are all known as the Flame Pokémon. It uses a special kind of martial arts involving all its limbs. Its fire never goes out. Its crown of fire is indicative of its fiery nature. It is beaten by none in terms of quickness. It uses unique fighting moves with fire on its hands and feet. It will take on any opponent. Piplup: Spoiler Piplup is based on a young penguin, possibly a little penguin. The light blue crown-shaped marking above its beak may be inspired by emperor penguins. Piplup is the most selected Sinnoh starter Pokémon in the anime. It has been the starter Pokémon of Dawn, Kenny, and Tyler. Piplup was designed by Yusuke Ohmura. Because it is very proud, it hates accepting food from people. Its thick down guards it from cold. It lives along shores in northern countries. A skilled swimmer, it dives for over 10 minutes to hunt. A poor walker, it often falls down. However, its strong pride makes it puff up its chest without a care.
