Let's appreciate Dope

Dope is an amazing song and a very underrated one, I must say.

1. It's very emotional, private and raw.

2. It became Gaga's second Top 10 single from ARTPOP (DWUW could never).

3. We got great performances of the song at the YouTube Music Awards, Alan Carr and Vevo special.

And its demo is amazing :tony:

It's been my second favorite Gaga song since ARTPOP dropped. I even bought a hat with "DOPE" on it and I promote God's ballad any time someone compliments or mentions it :diane:

"'Dope'? Cool hat"

"THANKS I BOUGHT IT BECAUSE OF A LADY GAGA SONG! BUY IT AND ARTPOP ON ITUNES"

🌸Flourishing and vibrant🌼

"Dope" is more lyrically interesting to me than "I Wanna Be With You," and both its lyrics and performance are more powerful and soulful for me. It's so raw and heartfelt.

Her performance on Howard Stern is also fantastic, even though we only have audio:

The label forced her to change an already amazing song and release an inferior version because IWBWU was too personal, it doesn't fit the theme of the EDM album, it sounds weird hearing a ballad with electronic production, she sounds wasted on the track, the YouTube performance was sad because  its day Troy left her and she broke down...

I love Dope so much:heart: It doesn’t deserve the hate it gets. I love both IWBWY for different reason and I’m very happy we got both now:firega:

She actually said in a interview that the label loved IWBWY so much. She was afraid they wanted her to push her as the next Adele because it was the thing back then. So she said ‘you want a ballad? Here I give you a ballad’ and made an amazing extremely personal song that’s way less romantic. So both a personal but in different ways:tony:

No, she explicitly stated on Howard Stern that her label loved I Wanna Be With You. She said they were only saying that because Lorde and Adele were on the radio, so she changed the song in rebellion against her record label, clearly saying that Dope is much more soul-baring and personal and "You" was.

"You" is much more commercial than "Dope" and no record label would encourage an artist to turn a very commercial song about love and relationships into a decidedly less commercial-sounding one about drug addiction and guilt. And it is not unusual for ballads to have electronic production, as the '90s had plenty of them. Additionally, she was crying when she was recording Dope, she wasn't drunk. Stop trying to manipulate the story behind the development and evolution of the song into some twisted theory that Gaga was "forced" to change You into Dope when in fact she did it out of her own free will. You're only saying all of this bullshit because you heard the former first.

Head Empty

Sadly this specific performance wasn't recorded professionally, but to me this is her best vocal performance of the song. That second verse and second chorus

I love the song so much, and love her vocals on the track - you can feel her pain in it.

Heartbreakingly great.

I love IWBWY, too - I think it's a great example of how Gaga can approach the same instrumental in two completely different ways.

It's never grown on me but I'm hoping that one day it does because I want to like it. It's the vocals that put me off.

I enjoyed it when she performed it live at the Artrave though.
