Recently, Lil Nas X was on an episode of The Shop on HBO. Kevin Hart was also on it. And well, this is trending on Twitter.

Some of the reactions:

If you are Black or Latino and grew up in the hood (like myself), you know being part of the LGBT community can be quite dangerous.

Kevin hart is such a f*cking douche. Trying to invalidate something that probably took Lil Nas X a lot of courage to do, I'm on the record not the biggest fan of his but he is 10000% right. :applause:

Lil Nas X, I stan! Kevin Heart is trash so I'm not surprised at his response. Ignorant people love to stay ignorant. Lil Nas X coming out was defeiently a big deal and I hate when people try to downplay it because they feel like it's unnecessaryand being LGBT is something that should remain a secret. All the while they teach their children to hate anything linked to the LBGT

I still feel like Kevin Hart should've apologized, yes it was tweets from 2009 but he had the opportunity as a black man to support the LGBT community and open the door for other black men in the industry to talk about it and have a conversation around the issue and fear that gay poc feel about coming out and be accepted.

Absolutely. And, unfortunately, is a reason why so many of us are "hard". Like, we had no choice.

I hate his dismissive attitude and overall his character in real life

I think he just doesn't get it. I've had friends say the same thing.

"You're gay, so what? It's not a big deal".

In one sense, having someone imply that being gay is so normal that it isn't worth exclaiming is great. I'm sure Kevin thinks so too. I don't think he's being malicious.

At the same time, it'd be nice for people to realize how traumatizing it can be to feel, sometimes for decades, that you need to hide who you are to be loved or for your own safety. To be able to say out loud "I am gay" isn't only a social declaration of victory, it's a win in a personal battle 'cause a lot of us are very insecure from internalizing those feelings for so long.

Idk, I'm still not convinced Kevin is a bigot. I think he just doesn't get it.

Yea, in a way I think he’s just ignorant about the topic. We’ve met many people like him.

I love comedians but I don’t always laugh at Kevin’s stand up as much as the audience does. I enjoy crass comedy the most and don’t get offended on issues either as long as it’s the name of comedy.

Kevin’s interpretation of “he said he’s gay, so what” is more of a “I feel uncomfortable talking about gay people. Let’s move on.” I do agree with the “so what” part but more in a way that it should not matter if he is gay or not and that people should just accept him for who he is. Sadly that’s not the case and Lil Nas X spoke nothing but truth.

On a side note, Lil Nas X is pretty cute without the whole cowboy get up. Hey Lil Nas X.
