yeah i don't think is that long of a wait either,  but many fans see it as her BIG return to synthpop (or whatever is it better defined as) since ARTPOP, and some of them didn't even like that one much, so that's why the mayhem

PS: As much as she is problematic, imho -- her various comments about feminism or politics over the years) -- is she really just this much in character?  If so, you go girl, I will support your parodying of Americana and release after release. 
If she's serious, though, I dunno how to "support". 
Either way, she has accomplished her art in confusing my queer self

Iconic. Liz Phair’s Exile in Guyville has been my all time favorite album since I was 15. 

That changed with Norman F’cking Rockwell.
