So are they saying that people don’t born gay but that they become gay after experiencing certain environmental factors?

I don’t believe people are born with a predetermined sexuality.  That’s absurd.  At the same time I am not saying sexuality is a choice.  As we grow we learn what we like.  It’s as simple as that and there should be no shame.

People shouldn’t sweat the details, if you feel gay, be gay:ohwell: realistically it’s easier said than done but why should it matter when should our sexuality be classified?:oprah:

The title is misleading. The study says "there's not one gay gene, rather hundreds that can be linked to sexuality." Sexuality is likely a mixture of some genes, some environmental factors (epigenetics, hormones, psychology, and more).

If anyone is interested in reading it

Anyway, it looks interesting, but I expect a research that may dismiss this one.. it's still pretty much unclear, especially when the question comes to gay identical twins or when there are more than one LGBTQ+ in a family, if it's siblings or uncle-nephew or cousins.

In my family I have a gay uncle and gay cousin all from the my mom's side.. so there's something genetic?

Not any more than they "become" straight. Maybe kids are a blank slate with no sexuality. :)

There's some evidence to show that sexuality may be predetermined. Look up the ones that link androgen exposure with sexual orientation. It's not conclusive but it's not "absurd" either. I believe the answer is likely a mixture of nature and nurture but to deny nature entirely is what's absurd.

We're biological beings, we gotta remember that.

No, they are saying there isn't one specific gene or group of genes that determine sexuality. Instead, it's a  combination of many different genes plus enviromental factors and life experiences.

The gay gene theory always seemed sketchy to me. I mean it sounds absurd!

Honestly it's better for everyone that no isolated "gay gene" is identified. If it is, people might try to "cure" it, or worse, test fetuses for it and selectively terminate the gay ones...

"life experience" is dumb because we all grow up into a hetero kind of life experience, this is all we see when we grow up, the realization of feeling attraction to the same sex is coming so sudden, without any experience actually.

I don't think anyone truly believes that there is ONE SPECIFIC GENE that makes someone gay or straight or bi. That is absurd. But it is a combination of several biological, psychological and environmental factors.

I was taught in school that sexuality was partially determined by the chemical/hormone activity in the womb during pregnancy.

Title can be misleading and not tell the full story. I actually made a thread on this a few days ago with a more in depth analysis.
