Ryusei 61,110
So there is one album which I think is heavily overlooked. I think Maren Morris' album GIRL deserves a nomination. She is the leader in CMA nominations this year with a whopping 6 nominations including album and song of the year. Now if you only know Maren from The Middle with Zedd then you're missing out. If you like Taylor Swift or Kacey Musgraves you're highly likely to like Maren. And if you're thinking: those 2s vocals arent good enough for me: Maren's got you covered. First of all she already won the "Best country solo performance" Grammy for her song "My Church" in 2017 and received 10 nominations total in only 3 years. so the Grammys def. know of her. A few members of Goldderby are also predicting a nomination for her. Spoiler Then about the album at hand: I think GIRL is a brilliant country-pop album and I was blown away the first time I listened to it because of how she takes those little things in life and turns them into a great detailed song. I love the lyrics on this album. For example "A song for everything" is about feeling nostalgic about certain songs or albums and it's so meta that I never even thought "I need a song about songs" and I didn't know I needed it until I heard this song. Also the lyric "One danced you through love, one rocked you through lonely, mixtaped your heartbreak and made you feel holy" Spoiler Then there is the proof that amazing short songs exist with "Make out with me" Smartly positioned in the middle of the album (which the spoken bit at the beginning makes clear) it's a song that's about a voice message she leaves for her lover as her phone is about to die and by the time she sings "I got one more minute of this message to burn" there is one more minute of the song left. This is the attention to detail I just love. The simplicity and relatability of the subject matter is something I love about this song and also about country music in general. Spoiler Then there is the song that caught me completely off-guard when I first listened to it called "RSVP" which really doesn't contain much of a country-element at all and instead is a sexy mid-tempo kind of pop song with lyrics just as smart as on any other song on this album. Another thing I love about this album is how it's versatile yet cohesive. Spoiler I really don't think there is a single weak song on this album but other must-hears include "Great Ones", a song about how "most loves don't make it through but the great ones do", "The Bones", a song which basically equates a relationship to a house and says that if "the bones" of the house (or the relationship) are good it won't budge and the rest doesn't matter even if the glass shatters or there are cracks in the foundation, or the title track "GIRL" which opens the album with some really cool guitars and is about self-empowerment for women and saying it's ok to feel down but also encourages to pick yourself back up. Spoiler Doesn't have much to do with this album but she is also great live as I have witnessed myself this year. Also here some live performances: Spoiler So yeah.. thanks for coming to my TED talk and listen to this brilliant and fun album in full: And if you liked what you heard: Her first album is just as good and contains some amazing bops like "80s Mercedes" and "Rich" Spoiler Musery

corvus albus 38,031
GIRL is her weakest project. I'm targeting song and album as a whole here with that comment. That album may be a pop album but the few country elements still left are far too less to call it "country". Overall I was never impressed with Maren vocal delivery and her vocals in general. Her voice is powerfull and bland enough for pop songs but country needs a better harmony and a certain amount of subtlety Maren dose not possess. I'd stay with Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood and Kelsea Ballerini. Thank you, next Give the Pistol Annies that AOTY win in my opinion
