Tara Savelo even said “it was going to make us pee our pants” Plus, Applause wasn’t written until early 2013. yeah, i should've meant if the entire concept and work of ARTPOP was complete, sorry - and ya i know aura was meant to be the lead

Some music news articles even dubbed it her best song ever. The performances even had critical appeal (minus the SNL one, but that’s just cause it was cringey as hell) Looking back now, it’s obviously a mistake because of the R. Kelly situation. However, it wasn’t blown out like people expected it. Gaga apologized, removed the song, and did everything she could in the past year to stop it from becoming a sinking ship. And she succeeded. I was talking about ARTPOP as a whole. As I wrote earlier, DWUW was a good choice. The R. Kelly thing is really minor, there was no risk for Gaga (and honnestly she was dead at the time, she had nothing to lose) But the rest of the album/era…

Having aura as the lead could have been a bigger mess, especially since it was titled Burqa at the time. 0110100001100101011011000110110001101111

But like she had to do that, because they were using her as a money making machine. Other than that, everything else was fine. Even the second single switch from Venus to DWUW was a good choice commercially, as it performed much better. i don’t know. Everyone always said “omg remember how bad ARTPOP tanked” but like I remember it very clearly, and it wasn’t as bad as people say it was. Yeah, she wasn’t as critically acclaimed at the time (she had a lot of haters) but ARTPOP outperformed almost every single album released that year. 0110100001100101011011000110110001101111
bxr 1,016
Dec. 2012 ARTPOP release might’ve been a cleaner transition for Gaga, and rounded out the charts / pop space within her niche while still shifting the narrative — if that makes any sense … December 2012, January 2013 was like Diamonds, Locked Out of Heaven, Die Young, Beauty and a Beat might have been around that time, and Harlem Shake was about to drop a bit later … so Applause / ARTPOP might’ve flowed better with that tide … but idk if it would’ve even been viable to go right into that with BTWB, just on her personal bandwidth

seashellplay 512
while not the entirety of ARTPOP's critics, a lot of people are really just frustrated due to her not making an album like BTW - BTW had that dark and aggressive sound, it's addictive, ARTPOP is much more colorful and playful, but arguably ARTPOP era was even darker for gaga than btw itself was
