I think like most everyone before social activism truly kicked into mainstream gear, people made a joke of his allegations, glossed over them. Many many many artists still worked with and supported him. And tbqh, I knew of the urine incident, I knew vaguely of him being a creep but its not like everyone outside of people that pay attention to the urban industry knew everything about him. If you think about peoples general mindset or how they were being told to think, a lot of people turned it back around on the victims as if they should know better etc. That being said, knowing what we know now about her mindset during 2012/13, its obvious she worked with him out of pure unabashed rebellion. She wanted to piss someone off, its no coincidence that its him on a track called Do What U Want with its unreleased video concept being what it was I mean...it really doesn't go much deeper than her purposely trying to be offensive either because she was mad at the consuming public for being so fickle with her or as a way to be difficult with the management team that ended up leaving her later on, or both. But at the end of the day, the song had a strong message and a strong f*cking hook right? So that was supposed to be the catch I guess. Like im going to piss and turn you off but you cant deny its appeal. But RKelly was getting what was coming to him and her making a decision like that affected her. Its kind of like, you get what was coming you know? I personally think she knew what she was doing, this is all my theory btw. Not based in anything but my own obsession with her and having rewatched interviews within that time period etc.

If someone claims to be raped and sexually assaulted, why make a song with someone who is known for being a rapist pedophile and make the music video subject about being raped? how is this an act of rebellion? none of this makes sense which is why I wish she would explain it.

How is that not an act of rebellion? The very idea of having a song that plays between the idea of physical rape and 'artistic rape' (as Madonna would put it) sung with an actual rapist is inherently provocative. It's absolutely disgusting but it's rebellious and daring nonetheless. It makes complete sense.

Usher, Bruno Mars, The Weeknd and even Drake would’ve worked just as fine. Instead, she went with R. Kelly. I just don’t get it. I guess he’s a legend you get to brag about in your discography now. Right @BorisIsHere? Oh wait-

I like the version with r kelly tho lol

Weeknd would’ve been great.  But I guess he’s too mainstream for Gaga’s pretentious a$$ to collab w LOL:ladyhaha:

You should rebel against what happened to you, not to support or glorify what happened to you. Swine the song and performance for example is an act of rebellion.

Sure. I agree. But to rebel against the public (and herself) is still a form of rebellion, despite how morally corrupt it was. She was in a bad place mentally and her art showcased that.

I do think Usher, Trey Songz or even Jason Derulo would have been a good collaboration for DWUW. They were more relevant in 2013 when ARTPOP was released but Gaga wanted to play with the controversial aspect of the song, and wouldn't have reached it with another R&B artist. She got exactly what she wanted but it kind of back fired years later. I enjoyed DWUW and still do tbh. I really wish she did reshoot the scenes without R. Kelly. I personally loved the scenes where she's rolling in the news reports. It could have easily been reshot with Christina by January 2014, everyone was still all over it awaiting the music video.

I get what you're saying but it sounds like it comes from the perspective of someone who can't relate to what its like to take risks or be self destructive. She was not supporting or glorifying rape with that track regardless of whether or not she chose to work with him by the way. It's not that hard to comprehend this? Unless you're just reaching to villainize. I'm getting some Madonna nation narratives peeping through here lol

I dont even like Madonna, the facts are what made me have this opinion. I also did not accuse Gaga of anything, im just saying its not a rebellion against rape if you do a video about rape with a rapist. I also said I would like Gaga to explain what happened so im not confused. I guess this makes me part of madonna nation or whatever that is..

Well first of all I never said you were, I used them as a more blatant example of the type of people twisting these nuanced villain narratives. But considering how much you harped on that specific detail can't help but find that somewhat telling lol

Anyway, it absolutely would be. Go watch her post-SXSW interview where she discusses the intent behind her Swine performance. It would literally be the same energy albeit much more disturbing and actually offensive. Thus why it remains unreleased.

Everyone saying The Weeknd but his first breakthrough was in 2015 with Earned It so it would’ve been too late

Swime performance was about a rapist being a big and she is vomiting all the pain from that experience. That is rebelling against what happened to her.

DWUW on the other hand id different, it was not speaking against rape. I honestly cant come up with any reason why a rape victim would do a video about rape with a rapist pedophile. People are have been sexually abused can normalize their experience so maybe thats what is going on? not only that, she even made excuses for R Kelly sexual assault, rape, and pedophilia past and said it is the reason why she worked with him!
