Gaga said herself in a interview that she worked with him because the she relates to how the media lies about his past. Which is shocking considering we already have evidence of a sex tape and child marriage papers with Aaliyah. Whats even more crazy is the video and performances is about rape. This was obviously intentional but im not sure what she was trying to prove.

I just think she cannot believe that all the mess was going to be really true after all.

I've been saying for YEARS how Usher would have been both a commercially and professionally better featured artist on DWUW. Usher was still churning out hits during that time where as R.Kelly was not AND Usher had a cleaner / safer image where as R.Kelly was always riddled with intense drama around him. I don't get why she didnt go with Usher...I'll never understand why she chose to work with R.Kelly knowing of his crimes...it's the only indefensible thing Gaga has done in her career imo

My thought is that she was frustrated which made her stuck in a tunnel vision of going as hardcore, outrageous as possible to fit her song (Swine puke perfomance for example). In this case, the video and performance fit DWYW metaphors and the other implications just slipped by her.

She said herself it's was dark time. When you are surrounded by darkness, it' hard to tell if you're dancing with a monster.

I think like most everyone before social activism truly kicked into mainstream gear, people made a joke of his allegations, glossed over them. Many many many artists still worked with and supported him. And tbqh, I knew of the urine incident, I knew vaguely of him being a creep but its not like everyone outside of people that pay attention to the urban industry knew everything about him. If you think about peoples general mindset or how they were being told to think, a lot of people turned it back around on the victims as if they should know better etc. That being said, knowing what we know now about her mindset during 2012/13, its obvious she worked with him out of pure unabashed rebellion. She wanted to piss someone off, its no coincidence that its him on a track called Do What U Want with its unreleased video concept being what it was I mean...it really doesn't go much deeper than her purposely trying to be offensive either because she was mad at the consuming public for being so fickle with her or as a way to be difficult with the management team that ended up leaving her later on, or both. But at the end of the day, the song had a strong message and a strong f*cking hook right? So that was supposed to be the catch I guess. Like im going to piss and turn you off but you cant deny its appeal. But RKelly was getting what was coming to him and her making a decision like that affected her. Its kind of like, you get what was coming you know? I personally think she knew what she was doing, this is all my theory btw. Not based in anything but my own obsession with her and having rewatched interviews within that time period etc.

Usher, Bruno Mars, The Weeknd and even Drake would’ve worked just as fine. Instead, she went with R. Kelly. I just don’t get it. I guess he’s a legend you get to brag about in your discography now. Right @BorisIsHere? Oh wait-

I like the version with r kelly tho lol

My theory has always been that Interscope manifested this collaboration to help R.Kelly get that easy promotion for his upcoming album (which came out in November like ARTPOP) that was also under the Interscope label. Think about it. 🤷🏼‍♂️

You are correct but I’d rather have an artist with an incurable virus than one who rapes kids :reductive:

I really like the R. Kelly version the best but Usher or The Weeknd could've easily replaced him. Ugh! This BOP could've become one of her classics!!!:bradley::pray:

to be fair we need to remember that The Weeknd was unknown to the general public still in 2013
