If your principle is that you don’t want the government to subsidize others because that will make them “lazy welfare crybabies” but applaud when your side does it then those aren’t principles, that’s called hypocrisy. If they wanted to be principled then Republicans would not be happy with Trump’s decision. They are just against socialism for the general public but support it for protected people like disabled and veterans. Republicans believe poor people are poor for a reason so they dont see them as protected class. They dont believe in systemic racism so they dont view minorities protected class. I’m not saying that doing so is a good thing but if they had real principles then they would do so. Republicans salivate at the chance to cut benefits not only for veterans, but for everyone. Here’s an excerpt from an article specifically talking about cuts to veterans benefits: Cuts veterans’ benefits — The budget cuts $59 billion in mandatory spending on veterans’ benefits over the next ten years. Approximately 86 percent of mandatory spending for veterans is for compensation benefits to 4.9 million veterans and more than 400,000 survivors, and pension benefits for almost 470,000 veterans and their survivors.
