Morphine Prince 109,739
While campaigning for president last year, Mr. Bolsonaro declared that Brazil’s vast protected lands were an obstacle to economic growth and promised to open them up to commercial exploitation. Less than a year into his term, that is already happening. Brazil’s part of the Amazon lost more than 1,330 square miles of forest cover in the first half of 2019, a 39 percent increase over the same period last year, according to the government agency that tracks deforestation. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2019/08/23/world/americas/amazon-fire-brazil-bolsonaro.amp.html

Right wing media constantly uses emotions over facts and we blast them over it. We should hold ourselves to the same standard as we hold our opponents. Otherwise that just gives them an excuse to point out our hypocrisy. While I agree that the awareness the fires have brought has helped, I am also saying it can be a double edged sword. This kind of misinformation will be used by the right to discredit environmentalist in the years to come. I think we should reframe our outrage towards Deforestation and Bolsonaro's reckless deregulation instead of the fires. Nah, folk. Clearly these type of “fair” thinking about these topics hasn’t helped revert the damage we’re causing to the environment. People that don’t believe in global warming hasn’t changed their the views with facts. The only thing that you achieve by stating “facts” is calm people down and get them back to their own bubble when nothing really is “bad”. If we continue to push these ideas that nothing is really as severe as it seems, we’ll reach point of no return when things got factually bad. But stating facts in order to take away attention that was long overdue is actually fueling anti-environmentalism. Also, saying these fires aren’t important is just incorrect. You can’t start stating facts with a hyperbole based on your own opinion.

The facts are already catastrophic Check out this link to see the catastrophic levels of deforestation already occuring. https://amazondeforestation.io/ We have the facts already on our side. The environmental situation of the planet is already disastrous. Thats a fact. mauvais 0
🙄 Everyone’s on the same page these fires are man made but the impact will be global nonetheless. The recent Malibu fire was “man made” (electric malfunction) and climate change made it far worse. An out of control fire doesn’t just... happen. None of my claims are supported by any news outlets. They are supported by facts and unbiased actors such as NASA. You read one article and you think you know what's happening, you're not supported by facts. Did you know our natives are being killed or expelled from their land and the way that is done is through fire? Did you know that a couple of days ago, at 2pm Sao Paulo looked like it was 10pm, completely dark because of the fires? Sao Paulo is not close to the Amazon. Morphine Prince 109,739
Also, São Paulo’s air pollution has always been bad and these fires are just making the air quality in many areas WORSE. Air quality is very important.

Its a report from a satellite in space. I never said that the fires aren't a disaster in their own right I just am saying that the fires being the main cause of the destruction of the amazon isn't true. I acknowledge that my title wasn't the best. I made it kind of controversial in order to get people's attention. Will change it. Fires are important and disastrous. Deforestation and deregulation by Bolsonaro is even more disastrous Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always. We should use the facts to prove that the planet is dying, facts can't be proved wrong, hyperbole can be proved wrong Tbh That's yet another thing I also said as well There's plenty of facts u can be truthful with Lying or exxagerating the truth only makes those who don't care about environment take us even less seriously When u go too far, ur seen as an idiotic tree hugger I saw it happen here in Canada myself. All the protesters trying to stop all our oil pipelines with endless political pressure and legal challanges have been caught time and time again giving inncurate information about the oil sands that spreads on the internet but is actually a huge exxageration As a result since 57% of Canadians want the pipelines, those protestors are seen as idiots and extremests holding the countries economy hostage They could have campaigned on the any platform they got their hands on to discuss the facts as they are But no they chose to be dramatic and sometimes outright lie about the numbers... The result is many don't take them seriously now at all. They went too far with sensationalizing the facts and stretching them and now they lost all credibility to most people So @Morphine Prince it can backfire when the truth is dramatized. It ends up backfiring and taking away from it It may seem like it helps when u see the posts online but it's not because the only ppl that buy into the sensationalism are people that already care about the environment to begin with Skeptics who are the people who's minds really need to be changed don't take sensationalism well and look for ways to prove environmentalists wrong. When u don't fully tell the truth u only make it possible for them to make us seems like dramatic loonatics and that's not what we want
GypsyBabe 22,836
I noticed a lot of fake pictures. As someone who studied primatology, I recognized quite a few of the images regarding the fires to be old. Some even include primates that are not even native to the continent. That being said. These fires are not natural fires (which can actually be beneficial) but man made fires as a means to clear land. You are right that deforestation is the root of the issue here. The same thing happens in Indonesia. Its cheaper and quicker to set fire to the land and forest that will be used for palm oil plantations. Destruction of the rainforests needs to be addressed as a whole, but we first must deal with the fires. Which are not natural and in fact devastating to the indigenous people of Brazil and the rest of the world. ⚯͛
