Her raunchy image back then was truly shocking to everyone and I still find those looks shocking today. I couldn't even see a mainstream popstar creating such a hardcore video like Dirrty being shot in a warehouse and rolling around in mud and giving glimpses up their skirt. It's crazy to think that Dirrty couldn't even crack the US top 40. If it had been released a few years later, when hip hop really took off, it could've smashed. Even today, that track still sounds as crazy and shocking as when it came out 17 years ago. It was the first time a popstar created an album that involved a lot of emotion and "this is me" kinda tracks that cut to the bone and weren't superficial stuff dreamed up by a studio. Christina wrote this album and put her heart and soul into it. I don't think it's any coincidence that many more introspective pop albums followed from other singers after that. Sure, people thought Genie in a Bottle was a little naughty at the time, but Dirrty was 10 steps further.
