I mean would anyone steal bother with radios? Streams will bring you top spot not radio impressions

In the US, radios are still huge factors on the charts. A lot of songs become radio-only hits (songs that are carried by radio even though its streams and sales are down) like Delicate and Talk on top of my head. Radio hits also have the added benefit of having longevity because it takes a while for those impressions to go back into the negatives.

Impressions can and have bring you to the top spot.

There was an article a few years ago about how the label (I'm guessing Hollywood Records / Disney) paid a ton of money to get Selena's "Come and Get It" the #1 song on radio and pulled all funding for Demi's single at the time.

Is that why she unfollowed Selener that time? :selena:

So labels pay alright.

what if a song is so good and the artist doesn’t pay the radio

Who decides to play that popular song ?

Kinda happened with Shallow. I think the payola for it was minimal, if any. It was just requested too much and gained steam AFTER it went #1 because radio decided they couldn't ignore it anymore.

Now I'm even more inclined to think Scooter payed for Ariana's recent singles radio plays. I can see him doing to 100%, he is shameless and knowing that payola is confirmed to be an usual practice..

At least some of those deluded people can't say otherwise calling it a myth now :gayhat:

As someone getting in the music industry, it’s so easy to pay for payola. Radio play, interviews, publishing, if you have money you can literally overexpose yourself without needing a record label

I know. But there are actually some people in past arguments who believes payola is a myth made to smear some of their fave artists when it was actually a thing :fan:

You can see that happen when Gaga is about to release something or has just released. Her singles get played much more than they used to a week before.

Makes sense cause artists like Cardigan and Nas Maraj stay at the top when nobody actually listens to those songs anymore

You mean her older singles? I don't think they'd pay for that. That's likely just The radios having her in her memory again and spinning her most successful singles because nostalgia sells.

If I got to be honest, to me, Gaga and her team clearly are not doing any large payola for radio and it's evident for few years now, cause no matter what she releases there's always some complication with radios blocking her songs or not playing it, as far as I remember.

She just sends those flowers I always laugh about. xD

Sugar, spice, and everything nice.

It can also be people requesting the song on radio as it gains popularity.

edit:

ah, you mean her older singles.

No, tbh. Last time when Joanne was almost released, radios in Spain started playing Just Dance or Alejandro, songs that they never play, to make the public remember who it is and that she's releasing a new product soon. I could tell because we have the radio on every day during my shift at work
