Charli XCX shades Taylor's Reputation Tour

Except she isn’t shading? She literally said she is grateful to Taylor for the opportunity.

Her music post Sucker is mainly about doing drugs, partying and ****ing with strangers, and she’s saying that as an artist she felt she couldn’t be herself because she wasn’t playing to her audience.

Well the bottom line is...

You can't tour if you don't have a big audience or fanbase, if you don't have label money funding you for tours, if your songs aren't getting played or streamed on the radio to get royalties and you certainly can't tour without your own money, team etc. because if you do a tour, and actually do the damn thing, you'll be at a loss... like what happened to Gaga when she went all out for the Monster Ball and went bankrupt

Small acts can only open with the hope that their music will reach a bigger audience, and since Charli is still doing opening gigs, the ship has sailed away for her

She didnt shade at all... she is tired of opening for others and yes it must be frustrating to perform in front of people who are talking and don't care about you at all, they just want you to finish in order to see the singer they have paid for...  but girl you have to pay your bills, don't you? Don't be ungrateful if you can't have a proper tour.

She is touring though... She's touring right now She's not just opening for people, I don't know what the hell you're talking about. She's doing festivals and plenty of solo gigs this year. Like...

Yeah many small acts do festivals, but is Charli one of the main events? No 

Is she selling out big arenas? Where is she even touring? I didn't know she had anything to tour

Except she does tour? She has been a successful festival staple for years now, went on a tour for Sucker and had worldwide showcases for her last two mixtapes in the last three years. 

The reason why she hasn’t gone on a serious tour in years is because her label didn’t support her mixtapes. She’s putting out an album in two months and her world tour is already sold out. 

Even without label support in more than five years she has still managed to release critically acclaimed music, make a bigger room for herself and remain successful in that indie/gay twitter corner of pop

So Charli isn’t a random “small act” nobody. She’s actually respected in the industry, has written countless hits for others, and is deemed at the forefront of pop because of her rejection of traditional album rollouts, and how she fosters collaboration with everybody. 

Just because you don’t know anything about her or don’t understand her music doesn’t mean she’s this unknown lol

Gaga was doing a satirical Warhol pop star act, dressed as a drag queen super hero, dancing the Charleston...in front of stay at home Moms when she opened for New Kids On The Block. When she toured with the *** Cat Dolls she booked her own gig at every tour stop. Gaga used every opportunity given to her to the fullest extent possible.

What Charli is saying is totally reasonable and honest, but I do respect the hustle of an artist who can make any audience eat out of the palm of their hand.

Basically she said that the crowd was too juvenile for her, shading Swifts fanbase. Which, yes some of them are young, but she should be more respectful to Taylor for giving her the platform. If she doesn't want to open anymore, she should focus on her craft to get more fans so that she can be a bigger touring force 

Relevancy is debatable ngl, I havent heard or seen much from her since the Summer song with Rita

Exactly, and from this she grew a bigger fanbase untill she didnt need to open for artists anymore. She used it as a stepping stone to gain a strong fanbase to sell her records to and become a touring force

I'm not sure Gaga's goals were the same as Charli's, so the comparison maybe isn't entirely fair. If Charli doesn't want to open for other artists, particularly if their audiences are different, that's her prerogative.

Not everyone wants to dominate the world in the same way Gaga did/does.

She isn't shading. Obviously not all her fans are 5 years old, she's just saying there were young people in the audience and she isn't used to that, so she didn't feel herself as an artist. She never performs Boom Clap and Rules in her own sets

She's a workaholic to the point of almost having sought out help, so I don't see how she should focus on her craft more. And she's doesn't want to be a touring force  She's perfectly comfortable with her position in pop
