I think her streaming numbers are quite impressive for someone apparently nobody knows about.

I don't really listen to her much but  I've known about her for years. She's kind of on that line between mainstream and underground and has never quite broken out and got a hit yet. If you were to group her with other artists it'd be Kim Petras, Troye Sivan, Allie X, Marina and CRJ.

Nah. Gaga was a whole gamble because Just Dance is nothing like the songs on the radio at that time. The took a chance on her and they won.

They took a chance on her by investing everything they got in promoting it, yes. Once again: Charli's label doesn't have that kind of opportunity.

But Katy had two solid albums where she was ontop of the world. They know she has potential to hit big when she wants. Also Witness flopping was due to the label pressuring Katy to release a record.

You seem completely overfocused on commercial success and not focused whatsoever on respect from music critics and music related magazines :smh: Katy is one of the least respected pop stars out there, despite her having sold singles (and, at one point, albums) left and right. When did she get a cover on Pitchfork calling her the pop star of the future? She did not. Hence my argument.

As I said, Melodrama and every Beyonce album is highly praised. But are they actually good? Well thats subjective. Not everyone is gonna enjoy a praised piece of work.

True but the large majority of the public did enjoy it. Critical acclaim and public acclaim are more aligned than you seem to think. It's only on pop forums dedicated to radio friendly mainstream pop (like this one) where you find people thinking Lemonade is basic and boring :rip:

I dont see anyone talk about her except some pop stans. And thats the truth.

Again: Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, Noisey,... :ladyhaha: Do you hear yourself? You may think that stuff doesn't matter but it does.

@Didymus Most of the replies in this thread are "who is this?" which kind of proves my point :rip:

Most of the people here have also never heard about Weyes Blood's Titanic Rising even if it's the most acclaimed pop album of the year and will win awards left and right :toofunny: GGD is not a great indicator of what's being talked about in the industry at large. Its general taste level is far too basic and unadventurous to measure how successful artists are in the real world.

Itmade Charli decide to never open for anyone again.

Okay it’s not like she can headline her own stadium tour. The lack of self awareness :toofunny:

Happy I support a genuine artist such as Charli who meant zero harm from this interview besides that she didn't feel in place by performing on a mainstream tour with a fanbase she didn't connect to.

Regretting making this thread tbh :ladyhaha: I thought people would place this lighthearted comment of hers in context but apparently too much to ask :bradley:

For some reason I read the Taylor Swift albums secret session tweets with voices of 5 year olds. :ladyhaha:

That was a little shady of Charli. She knew what she was getting into performing for TS.

I mean Gaga performed at an IKEA parking lot, opened for NKOTB and Pussycat Dolls but never ever disrespected her audience . I get that she didn't mean any harm but girl ... keep it cute :lolga:

This, and Charli's performances at the shows were weak af

With Charli, she had the potential after releasing Boom Clap... but done nothing with it. If she released a good solid piece of work, she would be a lot bigger than what she is

She needs to do a local tour first to build a fanbase, a strong one. And she would need to make songs that everyone can enjoy

Sorry but I don’t understand your insistence that great music = commercial success. Do you really believe that the charts represent the most ‘high quality’ works? She has released three mixtapes of incredibly high quality since Boom Clap. Just because you didn’t personally like it, and therefore probably stayed away from her online cult following plus PC Music fans, doesn’t mean that she has had no success whatsoever.

Charli’s work is fantastic AND she goes under the radar by much of the general public. Both things can be true.

Also, she does tour with a strong touring fanbase. Her select Pop 2 shows sold out quickly and there’s clearly enough demand for her that she’s touring again with this new album.

Opulence

I get her point though. So much of her music now is about drinking, drugs and getting f**ked up, she must feel a bit fake singing her PG songs to a bunch of pre-teens, after the POP 2 tour :toofunny:

I'm not saying great music=commercial success... but in the case of Charli, her music isn't great at all. To me and others. Yes it may have a high metacritic score, but not everyone will like it

Literally half, if not more, of the replies are "who is this?". How is that a good touring force? She managed to sell out small gigs, and she has a small fanbase... consisting of select pop stans. She wont be able to sell out a stadium...

It's not original that a complete nobody is trying to shade a someone in order to get attention. But I'll admit it's kind of amusing. Maybe I even google her later.:ladyhaha:
