In just one day, Badshah raked in 75 million views on his single "Paagal." According to the Bloomberg, this broke the website's record for the most views in 24 hours. At first, some reportedly suspected that the Sony Music rapper accumulated "fake views" by having server farms and bots play the video. Yet, after taking a closer look, the complex world of YouTube ad space/views was revealed.

Badshah and Sony Music bought ad space where they embedded the music video and/or redirected viewers to it. If the viewer watched the ad-spaced featuring "Paagal" for a certain amount of time before skipping it to their desired video, then "Paagal" gets that view. This helped boost the video's total.

Despite this, YouTube is looking into the way it evaluates records, Bloomberg reports, citing two sources who are "familiar with the company’s thinking." By allowing this cloudy practice of padding views to continue, doubt will be cast on the popularity and quality of these tracks.

Katy did this for one of her old videos recently too 😂

Funny thing is, if you use YouTube playlists with ads, you might never realize that the ad song is out of place with the random shuffle.

This has been a thing since a year or two. Why now? Why re-evaluate after an indian guy broke the record? :oprah:

This is more evidence to me how views and streaming are bullshit and the formula needs to be totally rethought. It shouldn't count to the MAIN charts at all. It's bs like this, that has Drake 2nd behind the beatles which is just absurd.

Exactly this has been common knowledge for years now. Katy Perry is the worst j even got a 30 second video of BA before watching a movie online. Why is it such a big deal now a Indian person has done it. Gaga take notes Putlocker is waiting .

The formula needs to be "reevaluated" but streaming should count in the charts.

We might be biased because our fave does better in pure sales but the truth is that streaming reflects continued demand better than just sales do. It's much less front-loaded and shows longevity. How many times will a listener buy the same song? They can, however, continue to stream it and it's more indicative of actual use patterns when most people today don't buy music and use streaming.

There is a pure sales only chart for those who don't like streaming.

Probably both

Indian singers are 3 or 4 of the Top 10 YouTube artists worldwide. Including a very old but popular Indian singer who it's impossible to imagine cares about views or payola. She's likely in the Top 10 because there's just a huge number of people who listen to her songs.
