rumours 45,521 Posted July 30, 2019 Share Posted July 30, 2019 On July 27th, Grammy-winner Brandi Carlile and her new group "The Highwomen" (consisting of herself, Marren Morris, Natalie Hembly, and Amanda Shires) were performing at the Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island. In the middle of the set, The Highwomen sang an acapella version of "Eagle When She Flies" and announced Dolly as the surprise guest. Parton sang classics such as "Eagles When She Flies", "Just Because I'm a Woman", "Jolene", "I Will Always Love You", and "9 to 5". When asked why Parton agreed to perform at the festival, she expressed the desire to support what was the first all-female headlining act in the history of the Newport Folk Festival. Parton also proceeded not to charge the festival anything for the performance.
